Odd shaking

So my car has devloped this weird problem. Around 40-60mph when I'm on the gas the steering wheel will shake and you can feel it in the front end of the car. I know it's not the rims and tires because I've tried 3 different sets of wheels and rebalanced the tires. Plus the shaking is a lot stronger then when the wheels are out of balance I've experienced how that feels. I know it's not the rotors they are fairly new and do not cause the steering to shake one bit when I'm braking so they're not warped. I've checked the motor mounts and they seem fine. I've also jacked up the car and tried to see if theres any movement on the wheels/hub nothing solid as the day I bought the car. CV boots are fine no leaks. Nothing seems to look bent either. I'm ripping my hair out trying to figure out what this is. It feels really unsafe to hit speeds between 40-60 cause it shakes so violently. After 60mph the shaking stops. Does anyone have any clue on what the problem could be? I don't want to bring it to a shop and have them randomly replace parts.

i have this EXacT same problem, i thought it was out of alignment, it was 1/4" off, not enough to make a difference. The alignment shop said it was my axle joints that were worn out, i replaced the right axle this week and still didn't help. I'm gonna get it on the dyno to watch WTF happens when it's going that speed to see if we can diagnose it...

all my brakes are brand new too so i know thats not it...

Cool let me know. I know this isn't safe but I jacked up my car placed it on jack stands, kept the jack under the front and secured the rear wheels. I removed the front wheels and then started the car went though 1st and 2nd gear it was pretty smooth but when I hit 3rd and 4th you could feel something shaking. Even with no load on the front wheels you could feel the vibration in the car. I tried to listen really close and when I let it slow down but kept it in 4th I could hear a knocking sound coming from somewhere. So that eliminated the wheels for sure. Any how I'm hopeing you can figure out the problem. Otherwise I'm going to see if I can bring it to a shop to see what they can do, which is probably going to cost me a grip.

if its not your mounts, not ur axle joints(dont have to leak to be bad) then its your struts, same thing happened to me, my front shocks were gone and the whole front end wobbled, first though it was tires, nope, then mounts, nope, cv joints nope, then got new shocks been riding great since, hope this helps....

For me it can't be the shocks. I had the car lifted with out the wheels on and ran it through the gears. The suspenion wasn't moving and I could still feel the vibration. But thanks for your help.

They're probably blown but is the ride bouncy at all?

even if your CV joints are fine, if one of the shafts is bent it will induce vibration

Yea I think something is bent but I can't really tell. I'm gonna have a mechanic look at it for me.

Welp back from the mechanic. We swapped out one of the axels and the vibration is gone. He looked at it for a while and said the axels looked fine, but we wound up changing one anyways.

yeah i had the same problem a couple years ago in my crx. one of the axles kept slowly working its way out and you definetly knew when it did. When you got on the gas it would straighten up, but when you let off, it shook the whole damn car. I would look to see if its pushed all the way in the transmission, or slightly bent as well. both those would cause that for sure.

I had the same thing going on and while i was messing around today i decided to check the axle nut and guess what that son of a ***** was a little loose. So after i torqued it down went out and test drove and the vibration is gone. Might be it might not, but i'd check before going out and buying anything.

Wow...seems to be the thing to do, "all the cool kids are doing it". I had this problem w/ the old 'lude and never got around to messin' with it. The new one needed the rotors resurfaced anyways, and I'd been hearing a "ticking" from the passenger side when I turned, CV joint. As stated above, the boots were fine, but the inner joint was definately worn (stock w/ 100k on it). Got it replaced, new halfshaft from O'Reilleys $60 after core heck ya, and no vibe during driving, acceleration, or deceleration now, just like a new car. BTW if anyone is thinking of just replacing the boots on their halfshafts, DONT. Like I said, $60 after core, the boot kits are $30 a pop and then you still have your old joints...no brainer.

Hasta,
K

well, i'm glad it worked for you!! I filled my passenger side motor mount with urethane and that helped my viabration but it didn't get rid of it... I was out driving yesterday and my tranny decided to go out... Bummer. It'll be back up in a week.
