Notchy shifting?

Is notchy shifting normal, Its been this way for like 2 years ever since i bought the car. I changed the gear oil. I even got a forbidden shortshifter hoping that would lessen the annoyingness, which it did somewhat, I have to push so hard on the shifter and it switches so fast i cant hardly feel the notches. Well in anycase, I drove my friends 5th gen 97 prelude base model, and there was no notchiness at all. Is it just my car or do all 4th gens have notchy shifting? I'm thinking my motor mounts are unaligned or somethin or shift linkage.
