Ever since I changed my clutch master cylinder, the 4bidden short shift has been notchy as hell. I have changed the settings, and no luck. I even got stuck in reverse once. Anyone had these problems? My buddys at SPD did a thorough job on installing and bleeding the line, so I am not sure what the problem is.
The only thing I can think of is that when they reinstalled the clutch pedal they didnt properly set the release height or whatever. Almost sounds like the clutch isnt fully disengaging between gears. What is it like with the car off compared to how it used to?
no it doesn't have anything to do with the shift linkage. It's real straight foreward install and is very isolated interms of removing parts etc. The only thing that could cause the knotchyness is from it not being bled properly or a bad master cylinder such that it's not releasing the disc fully.
I am going to take it back to SPD, and have Seth test drive it to see what he thinks. I dont think it is the 4bidden. It seems like my clutch is just grabbing more in every gear.
that's not a good thing. If you're talking about 'grabbing more' as in it's stiffer to get into any gear, that's not normal regarless of type or extremety of a disc or pressure plate. In any case, it's not normal, whatever they did, they did something wrong or the part they put in is bad.
Well, I fixed the problem. Apparently the 4bidden was hitting the center console, and the shifter wasn't going in gear correctly. I took off the console and 4bidden, and then I reinstalled everything. I just got back from driving her around, and she drives nice again. I am not sure how everyting got out of line, but oh well.
I had the setting on the most aggressive. I could have easily shifted hard into a gear and I could have shifted the center console a little. Thats my best guess
speaking of the 4bidden ss, anyone having trouble getting it into Reverse? Lol, 4bidden you're probably the first person who will respond to this, but I swear it didn't do this before I installed it. Everything else is fine, the movement is great, and I'll probably end up screwing up my synchros from all the fun I'm having, but almost every other day when I leave in the morning, I have the hardest time getting the thing into reverse. I'm *pretty sure* I didn't accidentally adjust either of the linkage cables when I replaced the oem shift lever, I mean, I fidgeted a while before I realized I was making the install more difficult than it should've been, but what happens is when I try to push it back into reverse, it goes far enough for the reverse lights to engage, but I can't get it in there. Usually I either manage to force it in with moderate pressure, or after a while of going from 4th to 5th, then to R, it goes (possibly has nothing to do with that, maybe just moving the linkages in general). Anyone experiencing this?
That has always happened in my car and happens in most every Honda due to the way that reverse is engaged. When you slide the lever into reverse the reverse idler gear gets pushed down in between two gears, if the teeth dont mesh it will not go in until the gears slightly move to allow it to drop down in.
What I usually do is just give a firm rock in my seat and its enough to allow it to drop down in.

lol, I'll give the ol' "rock the seat" thing a try. I definitely won't take fuel injection forgranter, or the 160 hp my si has, but I definitely miss my 87 prelude tranny, it just generally felt a lot cleaner through the gears, the lever just felt more securely connected to the transmission ... oh well, no way in hell I'll buy another 2nd gen just for that though, i'm done with carburetors.
If I am not mistaken that generation Prelude has a rod shifter, not cable shifter like our 4gens. The rod is a lot more solid and would improve the feel.
