Looking at buying my first prelude- a few questions

Hello, Im a noob to preludes and Im considering buying a 4th gen. What is the timing belt schedual for them? As I think this car is overdue. Can you run the 2.2 VTEC on regular gas without problems? I had a B series vtec that ran fine on regular gas Im windering if the H will do the same.

She wants $8000 for it and it has 112,200M on it.(Im actually in Canada but I converted it to US) I dont think its quite worth that, especialy if it needs timing belt service. Any ideas?

Please use topic titles that pertain to your thread, so it is easier for others to do "searches" and come up with the info.

I don't know the price difference of Preludes in Canada but is it $8,000 Canadian Dollars? Is that what you meant by "I'm in canada but I converted it to US? Even with 112,000 miles, most on this site find 4th gens with around that mileage for 2,500-4,500 US dollars, 8,000 US dollars seems like a lot. I do see some mint condition original Vtec preludes with 100,000-120,000 miles being sold for around 7,000 US dollars but they don't sell fast, and I'm sure they won't get the full amount either.

I wouldn't pay more than book value for it.

Timing belt/water pump should be done together usually around 100,000 miles so it may be overdue. Ask if it's been done and if they have papers to prove it. If they don't ask for a price drop as you'll have to do it anyways for safety.

Not sure in Canada but a timing belt/water pump job costs around 700-900 at a dealership and a little less than that anywhere else unless you buy the parts yourself then it's a lot cheaper.

I remember seeing a thread about H22 Vtec engines running something else besides the recommended premium gasoline and IIRC a lot said they ran 87 or unleaded fuel on it and seemed to be fine.

It's $8000 canadian but at the current time there's not much of a difference in the exchange. The owner hasnt changed the timing belt but says it may have been done before she got it, and she has the records I can look through to see. It's got fresh paint and nice wheels wich may be worth a little more $$. Preludes dont come too cheap up here in Kanada-stan. A local girl wants $4500 (canadian)for hers and it has 216,000 miles on it. Thats ridiculous. But Im thinking Ill take a look at the one in question and if it has had the timing belt done and everything else checks out haggle her down a little.
