i was coming to a stop today and i pressed the brakes and there is no pressure until about 3/4 of the way down. the past few months they have been "mushy". any suggestions on what to try? bleeding first maybe? what should i use to bleed them?
New master cylinder . . . very common failure. Do a search. At first, it will only happen after lots of stop and go driving in hot weather, then it gets progressivley worse. I think it has something to do with the viscosity of the brake fluid decerasing and snaeking past the seals as it gets hot. A remanufactured unit should run $60-90 at your local parts store. Installation is fairly easy, maybe an hour job tops.

I agree....
installation is not hard and an hour tops like mentioned earlier.. just don't forget to bench bleed the cylinder and bleed it again when you install the master cylinder on the brake booster..

hmmm, bench bleed? where is the master cylinder exactly? i opened the hood today and say the reservior with an aluminum thing connected to a big black thing.
he! i have the same problem as you, I just installed my Spoon Caliper on my car, change the Master Cylinder for a 5 gen one, change my brake fluid ( 5.1 ), change my line by Stainless, change my pad, change my rotor, bleed the brake... but still mushi
but when i press hard on the brake...damn! those Spoon brake like hell.
So it is normal ? my garage said that it might be cause by the Spoon caliper...any idea?
where can i get a bleed kit? are SS lines hard to install? and what all do the SS lines replace? i may go ahead and upgrade....why not is what i am thinking

you can get a bleeder kit at any local parts store.. sometimes when you buy a master cylinder.. it'll come with it..
you really don't need a bleeder kit... bleeder kit would be the "right" way of bleeding a master cylinder... hence "bench bleeding"..
you take a clean oil pan and lie the mater cylinder on it and have the fluid spray onto the pan when you bleeding it.. works the same.... just a bit messier...
