I got word a few days ago that Tanabe Racing Development was searching for a 1992-1996 Prelude in Southern California that they could use to fabricate a new cat-back exhaust. So I shot an email to Erick Barajas over at Tanabe letting him know that I would be more than happy to give them my lude for a few days.
Well, got a call today and low and behold it was Erick. He said that they would love to use my car. So I take it in next wednesday morning and they are going to have it for a day or two for fabrication and mock-up. Then they send the prototype to Japan for production, and when the first batch comes back to the states, I will receive one of the first units.
So anyways, be on the lookout for more news about this. As far as pics while they are working on my car, I would like to preserve Tanabes intellectual property rights so pics will only be posted if either provided or authorized by Tanabe.
I think its neat. My thoughts is that it is a most likely one of the new Ultra-Medalions since that is the only exhaust system that they dont have a 92-96 Prelude application listed.
Honestly, I think the exhaust would be the last thing I would replace on my car unless of course it breaks on me. I always wondered how much power you can add without changing out the stock exhaust with an aftermarket one.
Heh, you should run a search on here for a dude named CheeseFrog who has a sick little turbo Civic; he has the stock muffler to keep the car looking like a sleeper. There should be plenty of links to the video of him racing an acquaintance in a Viper and keeping pace with him (while he had his e-brake on, d'oh.) It's pretty well known that unless you have a fairly modded engine, exhaust won't make a huge difference - what surprised me was that he did this on a turbo engine, which supposedly are much more sensitive to exhaust restrictions.
That said, I'm eager to see this new exhaust.

Okie Dokie... so I went all summer and never heard from Tanabe. Major bummer... Then last week Tanabe posted up on the SoCalPrelude forum that they were looking for a 4th Gen. I said "WTF?!?!", so I contacted them and they said, "Bring her in ASAP!!!".
So after all this waiting I finally got the lude into their facility.
The exhaust is the new 'Medallion Concept-G'. Here's the Tanabe info on the system.
CONCEPT G is an all new motorsports developed exhaust system that features high power benefits, while maintaining responsible sound levels.
Using the all new 'continuous strand' ADVANTEX packing material technology, CONCEPT G acheives extremely high levels of exhaust system efficiency, while maintaining a street driveable, extremely clean sound output that is under 93db.
This system requires no removeable silencer for under 93db operation at all rpms, and produces a unique, deep tone and rumble.
The full SUS304 stainless CONCEPT G is designed for optimal pipe routing as well as ground clearance. It's sporty appearance and angle-cut tip is ideal for the sports car & sport compact driver.
