new to site, my 96vtec wont dive over 3000rmp

i just bought my car about 2 months ago, i used to drive a 90si but i like the forth gen better. anyway after i drive for awhile, or sometimes right off the start, the car will hold it self from going over 2 or 3000rpms, im the low gears i can get it up there maybe like 35-4000rpms, but in forth or fifth gear it wont go over 2-3, i also have a field vtec controller hooked up, from the pervious owner, wondering if that had anything to do with it cause i know it is hooked up to the map sensor and i thought it might be messing with the sensor of the throttle somehow cuase i heard ppl have problems with them, please help

well for one you don't get full redline when the car is cold! I don't have a field's so I don't know about that.

after it warms up does it drive fine. You have to let the engine warm up before you get into vtec. SO therefore you can't rev high. Never had any experience with fields so I can't tell you anything on that.

I have the same question as sik96, does it do it after it is at normal operating temp. Sounds like the fields is controlling the map sensor to not let you get into trouble when the engine is not up to temp. Kinda like that idea but it isn't hard to keep it easy till she warms up. I too have not heard too much about the fields controller to say. If it were my lude I would sell the fields and drop in the VAFC. Just my .02.

The thing that I wouldn't understand is that if it does this after it warms up then somehow if CEL is on or map sensor is telling the ecu to go into "limp mode" for some reason or another. You need to research the fields controller. good luck and let us know what happens

no its been happening after the car is at regular temp. The car will wait to warm bac up until if starts doin the same thing. if for some reason im in a rush and i dont really let the car warm up for a couple min and start driving a little fast it will do the same thing, if i dont let the car warm up and drive slow in high gears it usually wont happen, a couple weeks ago i was having similar problems with the car, i took it to get a digonstic and the computer told me it was the map sensor, but i was reading a couple threads about problems with map sensors, and one post was about a guy that had a field vtec ontroller and had some problems with it cause it was wired into the mapsensor, and if there was a bad hook up the ecu would think that the map sensor is bad and go into limp mode, i fixed that pretty easy, there was a on/off switch in the bac on the controller that somehow got turned off position, and this switch always has to be on so the unit will have power. i tihnk im gonna pull the field out today and see what the car drives like

I bet that will help it out. Somehow the relay from the map to the ecu is telling the ecu to limp. is the fields wired into the ecu like the vafc.??
