hello everyone, i am thinking about buying a 92 prelude, 5 spd, with 177000 miles on it, the guy wants 2000, are there any downsides to them, and if so, what should i look for, thank you.
ask him for service papers. check for rust on the sunroom and rear panels around the rear window. When you test drive it, make sure you get to drive till it warms up to operating temperature. Driving it around when it's cold can mask some cel's or other devices if they are malfunctioning until the car is warmed up. Ask for most recent smog papers. Timing belt, has it been changed? What has he done with the car? Make sure all the climate control components are working in the car. Are the tires good? Why is he selling?
177k is askin for trouble if it's the stock motor. Even if he changed oil regularly, there are all these things that start going out on you on our ludes past 150k. Don't forget it's a 16 year old car.

compression check etc will help tell you how much life it still has in it. If you know a local shop or mechanic, have them do an overall check for like 80-100 bucks usually. If you really plan on buying the car, its a good route to double check. Most sellers are fine with the idea.
