Check near your passenger shock tower, there may be the plug for the spool valve circuit, it's a green/yellow wire, a lot of 4th gens will have this plug even if they weren't VTEC models. Does your spool valve have the oil pressure sensor on the side of it? It's a 2 wire sensor, some JDM motors won't have that sensor and the ECU will be set to not look for it allowing VTEC to work without it. If this is the case and you are missing this sensor but have an ECU that is looking for it then you may have to add it.

Here is how mine is wired up, already had the spool valve plug which will be located where I'm pointing to. Extend the wire to reach the spool valve.

This is where I ran the wire for the oil pressure switch, the main harness on all Prelude's have the wiring going to the ECU already, it's just the engine harness itself needs it.

See where the blue wire is going in? This is where I added it, you should see a blank socket there where you can pull out a rubber plug to add the wire. Luckily my motor came with a RHD harness where I took the plug and the pin and just inserted the pin where it needed to go.

Here's the diagram for wire locations for that plug, top is the signal wire and bottom is the ground, just ground it to the nearest place.

Hope this helps, when I swapped my H22a in all the threads documenting on how to do all this was missing the pictures.

Yeah if you don't replace the t-belt on any used motor your pretty much asking for it to snap. It's VERY rare that someone can put a new belt on a motor where it snapped to have it up and running without bent valves, consider yourself a lot luckier than you think.
