New muffler

I don't know much about exhaust, so I'll tell you everything I know.
I have headers, a high flow cat, 2.5 inch piping all the way back, and a really, really, crappy muffler. The previous owner (my friend) told me he blew all the padding out of it. This is resulting in my car being so ridiculously loud and worse, whiny. I'd like to keep the volume but I would rather go for alittle tougher sound instead of the horrible whining. Can anyone recommend me a good muffler to give me this sound?

cliff notes : need a loud, but tougher sounding exhaust.

just get a catback, my personal fav being the greddy evo, i LOVE the way it sounds... if you just want a muffler though, get an Apex'i N1...

Is the piping resonated? If it's not resonated just about any straight through muffler design is going to be loud. I'm partial to Thermals, but they do muffle low rpm sounds but they sound great. If you're all about sound then get a cheap ebay dual tip muffler. I've seen them on a few cars & they sound fairly good, don't know about longetivity though.

a resonator is a must. If you don't have one it sounds all raspy (the ricey sound).

quick questions for you, what engine do you have? what size high-flow cat? what headers?

if you have an h23 you'll have a smaller diameter collector on the header, then you're wasting power by using the larger exhaust pipping as you need as much back pressure as possible.

if thats the case, then i'd go with a new catback system.

if you have an h22 the collector size on the header would be determined by what header you have, then you can just search for any glass-pack universal muffler.

My ride has the 2.3L and I have a DC Sports stainless cat-back exhaust, 2.5". Mine is the similar in shape as the Greddy Evo- oval shaped muffler, not the N1-style round canister. The DC Sports has a 4" rolled tip with the logo etched on the tip.

I have a lot of people ask what kind I have because it has a deeper tone than some others, but is quiet at idle and sounds nasty when you get on it. It's quiet enough at low speed (like rolling thru the neighborhood late at night) where the neighbors don't complain. I hear so many that are really raspy at the slightest bit of throttle, so I think mine is a good mix. Also if you live in a rust-prone area the stainless will basically be good for life. I've had mine for about 7 or 8 years and it still looks and sounds great.
