New here,couple q's

hi guys,i'm davis.i'm looking to buy a used 92 prelude.all stock with a H23A1 and auto tranny.body looks great.

#1.how reliable is this tranny?i had a 94 civic dx coupe with an auto for a year & half, before an old lady changed lanes in front of us 3 weeks ago and killed it.had no problems with the tranny.we really want a 5-speed,but everything here is a little out of our price range.

#2.i drove it for about 20 mins, there was a bit of a vibration.engine didn't miss and it had good power,i suspect it is a bad motor/tranny mount.popped the hood and had my girl shift into reverse than drive, the entire engine would rock to the rear in reverse, than rock to the front when shifted into drive.

any insight would be helpful.

thank's.

davis.

1. I can't answer for the 4th gen auto tranny because I have no experience with them. I think they seem to have less problems than the 5th gen SS.

So you want to ask what? It's very hard to diagnose a car online.

Bottom line: if you don't feel 100% comfortable buying this car...don't

the trans are very reliable, but I would check the condition of the fluid. If it shifts solid when you drive it, sounds solid. you really didn't give much info about the vibration for anyone to make a good guess.

i got my 92 si auto when i was 16 that was 10 years ago and the tranny survived my stupid stomp the gas to the floor at every light years and beyond. my tranny still shifts smooth and doesnt have any leaks but if i had it to do all over again i would not have gotten it 1. its auto, after learning the joys of manual shifting i havent owned another auto 2. its not an h22, after buying a 5th gen a couple of months ago i now see why the h22 is do much better. so from a guy who knows the auto h23 is ok but the manual h22 is just so much better.
