New to forum, 1994 Prelude Si

Yep, so I recently bought this one...

(I'm leaving images as hyperlinks, they're huge, and I don't feel like resizing at the moment. Also, apologies about the quality, hurray to not having a camera, but having one in my phone.)

http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/735...hot3102009.jpg

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/912...eshot31020.jpg

History of car: Original owner, sold back to dealer, bought by second owner, bought from second owner directly by me. Was a daily driver.

How'd I get a hold of it? Found it on E-Bay, went and tested it, bought directly from owner, drove it home. Only paid $2800 USD.

Plans... evolving... been talking to Justin, a friend of mine who has been tuning for awhile, a lot about what to do with it. I have one set of plans assuming I don't swap for a H22 VTECH... I need to draw up the other plans, or more likely, have Justin do so, he's really good at it.

Fixed so far...
A/C compressor replaced for used one, that works.
That noise at 75+ mph... that's actually a piece of rubber on the bottom of the windshield... no issue if wipers all the way down.
Removed subs and amp, previous owner wired wrong and it was draining battery.
Replaced battery.
Sunroof rust spots covered with duct tape... reason, I drove it home over winter break bake to Chicago and was gonna swap roofs with my Dad's help... problem was it was so cold that we would have broken all the plastic tabs that hold all the trim and ceiling in place, which would have sucked, so it will wait until this summer, so far the tape is holding.
Replaced spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap, and rotor (from distributor).
Cleaned the K&N filter.

Problems still there...
Brakes need lubrication, pads and rotors are good, just squeaky, I mean, we checked them, probably has to do with living in FL.
A/C condenser needs replacing, may be leaking.
Distributor coil may be bad, rough starts in the morning.
My speedometer has a thing where it likes to jump, and then go back down, and not be accurate...
Engine oil leak, this deserves it's own paragraph.

Got this diagnosed, and here's what the mechanic had to tell me, the following needs to be replaced:
Crankshaft oil seal
Oil pan gasket
Valve cover gasket
Distributor holder / gasket
Rear main oil seal
So yeah... parts plus labor on that is going to cost ~$1300+ on the one estimate I got.
Also discovered at this time is that my left front CV boot is pretty well gone, I plan on having that fixed by the end of the week.

Living in a condo in FL and not having access to a garage sucks, hurray school!

Anyways... on to the plans...

First off, the first upgrade I had done was to have a Clifford G5 IntelliGuard 770 alarm installed by JR Electronics here in Miami, FL. After reading the FAQ thread on car alarms I've decided I want to relocate the brain from next to the steering wheel to elsewhere. I also had the tilt sensor installed for when I eventually have better rims on there. I figure, before I mod it, I may as well have an alarm on it, so that it's that much less likely to walk away from me.

Now for the plans... which primarily wait on time and money, and note, aesthetics will come last, and I don't know whether or not I'll end up with a body kit, or what type if I do, I do plan on replacing hood with a vented CF one that keeps the original line though, and a CF trunk, my preferrence would be to redo the whole skin in CF as a way to lose weight, but only time will tell, and I know that would be a highly customized job, but we'll see. Also, I jokingly said this car will probably be 20 years old before I'm done, and that is most likely true.

Anyways...

Engine / Drivetrain:
Engine swap for JDM H22A VTEC 5 speed
Rebuild bottom of engine, change pistons, bore, change stroke length, want engine to be around 2.4L when done, possibly a forged crankshaft
Change header
Change full exhaust system for bigger diameter, higher flow
Eventually turbo
High flow fuel rail
Change out injectors
Change cam gears, shafts, valves, and springs
Hondata 300
Larger throttle body
Cold air intake, most likely AEM V2
Short shifter
Six plate performance clutch (most likely done at time of swap)
Light weight fly wheel (most likely done at time of swap)\
LSD (aftermarket, instead of a LSD H22A)
Radiator
Intercooler once turboed

That's all I can remember off the top of my head...

Suspension:
Tein Type Flex coil over suspension kit
Polyurethane Bushings (most likely Energy)
Most likely any other pieces that look old and abused...

Brakes:
Brand unknown but will replace with larger rotors, possibly vented
Replace with larger calipers, possibly multi pot depending on how well it will handle heat dissipation
Replace brake lines with steel braided one

Sound:
Pioneer Premier head unit
McIntosh amps, most likely 400 watt and another 300 or 600 for the sub
Boston Acoustic or JL Audio speakers, component
Single 10" or 12" sub woofer, JL or Boston Acoustic
(I like quality sound reproduction, not loud noise)

Aesthetics:
Only things I've really set myself on are the aforementioned hood and trunk lid and a pair of JDM black 1 piece headlights

Yeah, that about sums it up.

I haven't really had a chance to browse through all the topics yet, though I've started to peruse the FAQ, the one thing I need advice on for now is motor mounts, I want a set of good stiff light ones.

The reason brands aren't listed for most parts is, while I had it all planned out for the H23, I need to redo it for the H22, and while most parts may work, I'm going to re-research it.

And, that's my introduction, I suppose.

- Corey

The speedometer in my 93 does that jumping thing too. Don't know why yet. I also have the rough start in the morning problem. My sunroof stutters when opened, and I need new rotors and clutch. Need a second job to pay for it all. lol

I thought I should mention...

I bought the car with 170,000 miles on it... back in early December.

It is now March and it has 177,xxx miles on it, closing on 178k fast...

Why? I decided to drive it from Mimi to Chicago as part of my winter break, you know, to get a feel for the car...

And US 52 in the mountains of West Virginia with a Lude's stock handling is a hell of a lot of fun at 45+ mph on almost every curve, including the hair pins. Heh heh.

Got to love these cars.

Left front CV Boot replaced...

Glad that's done.

Wish I had a place to do my work though, would have been a **** ton cheaper.

Mine as well have just replaced the axel... The part is more expensive but the labor is about an hour long... $200 to replace one of mine.

Yep, I just want her running well for now, serious tuning planned for the future.

I see that you're a stock fan.

I've been browsing through the thread on JDM and EDM options. I like the idea of some of the switched and options that were once available.

But, a question of opinion for you, what do you think of adding a 10" sub to the center piece between the rear seats? I'd like to pull it off and have it look really clean.

Also, any suggestion in the way of gauges that would give you more information, oil temp, oil pressure, boost, all of those, that could be added or hidden in such a way as to make the interior still appear clean and stock, but still provide the additional information that such gauges afford?

Some people have installed gauges that you speak of behind the Instrument Panel Glass. They move the Gas/Temp and other accessory lights over and "Stealth" Install the gauges in the middle.

Quite a few have done this on H-T. If you can stand the "New and Improved" Search Feature try searching for Hidden Defi Gauges or something of the effect. ((I haven't used the new search in a few weeks there, supposedly they were fixing the piece.. They switched Forum Software, with a big reason for a "better" search.. LOL At least the old one worked.. :P))

Your car looks just like mine used to, without the pin stripe.. Heh
Though she's back to looking pretty much like that after being stolen.. But she looks like she was rapped and violated.. It's sad.. I'm trying to find parts to fix her back up to look half way presentable, but not having much luck.

I've also driven my car home for XMas Break before, from Phoenix, AZ to Mississippi, right outside of Memphis, TN. Long drive, but can be fun at times in the car. The time I did this was the only time that my car wasn't tampered with when I left for XMas.. Two of three XMas's now it's been broken into, and the one time was because I took it with me.. That's pretty bad..

Yea, I'd do a lot of research before you start spending more and buying parts... You'll change your mind about 50 times before you come to a final vision... Trust me, I've spent the money to prove the theory's true. I have a friend that I told the same thing to after he got his 5thGen.. He didn't believe me at first, but took my advice and he completely understands now what I was telling him..

You can get one of the VTEC Sub Assemblies, using a 6x9 Speaker, and put that there. Clean, stock look. I have one if you're interested.

So... I've started to do a part list for the car once I do a H22 swap...

Keep in mind, this isn't finalized at all yet... this is just the beginning...

The parts are listed by part name, part number, and company... I can post the websites later, I have them all in a spreadsheet.

Engine:
Cast Iron Sleeves 300-018* Darton Sleeves
Pistons, Rod, Crank BC0039 Brian Crower
Spring Retainer Kit BC0030S Brian Crower
Intake Valves BC3034 Brian Crower
Exhaust Valves BC3035 Brian Crower
Camshaft BC0031 Brian Crower
Flywheel 191221 Fidanza Engineering Corp.
Camgear 304-05-0225 Skunk2
Clutch Kit HA3-XTG6 Advanced Clutch Technology
Exhaust Header SBC-560921 DC
Fuel Rail 25-104R AEM
Air Intake 24-6005C AEM
Grounding Kit A'PEXi
ECU Controll S300 Hondata
Engine H22A VTEC JDM H22A Japan Motor Imports (or HMotors)
Radiator KOY-R1979 Koyo Racing

Electronics:
Alarm IntelliGuard 770 Clifford

Suspension:
Flex Coil Over DSH92-6USS1 Tein
Anti-Sway Bar Kit SST52190 Suspension Techniques

Plenty of thins I still need to find... motor mounts, probably new axles... blah blah blah... also will need a new toe kit... and yeah... basically, the eventual idea is about a 420 HP FI Prelude. I plan on doing an awful lot of weight reduction, I want this vehicle to eventually be track ready, be presentable, and be reliable. But yeah, there's plenty more to add, this is just what I have so far...

- Corey

PS. Comments, critiques, and suggestions are all welcome, and appreciated.
