Need your advice...
Heres my situation, I bought my car roughly a month or so ago.. Now I bought it out of province. I live in Alberta, Canada, and here SRVs run around 15-18 thousand.... In places like BC, they run a bit cheaper cause they are more popular, so I bought my car out of Vancouver, for 10 thousand.
Now to get the car to my hometown, Calgary, I drove the car all the way from Vancouver to Calgary, which is a good 2 day trip, roughly 18 hours of driving I think. Car made it to Calgary NO PROBLEMS....
Now I got the car in Calgary, second day I had it in Calgary, I noticed this slight knock between 3-4k RPM, I thought oh maybe it just needs oil from the long trip to Calgary, check the oil its fine.
3rd day the knock is worse, almost from 2-5k RPMS.... Now Im getting worried. I was hardly driving the car, so i wasn't being hard on it...
4th day, same knock as first, day but I notice the car is excessively sluggish, no power at all.... I come up to a stop light and down shift, to slow down, soon as I down into second, the engine cuts out..... I think oh great.... Pop it into nuetral and turn the key as I coast down the road, engines turns over, fine, but I can hear it almost grinding as it sits at 500 rpm....
At this point I coasted it off the road , close to a turning meadian...
I got the car towed back to my uncles shop where it sat for a couple days....
My dad is a self learning mechanic, throughout his years from growing up he has been working on cars, since he can remember. Hes rebuilt tons of engines, knows what hes doing...
Now at my uncles shop we pulled the bottom end off, and took a look at the damage..... the 2nd cycl rod bearing, had spun and completely mashed itself into the other bearing, as the rod rode, the crank it pounded it into the other bearing.... While it was pounding it, it slowly shaved the crank some, making it uneven.
Now, we looked at this, and assed the situation, figuring we might be able to make the car somewhat driveable, if we polish up the crank, and put on an oversized bearing, to get rid of the slop that was made from the undersized crank...
After polishing it up and replacing all the bearings... we put it back together... Thinking the car should be driveable till we can either bring up more money to replace the entire engine or rebuild it..... So we crank it over, and start the car, let it run for about 30 min to get the oil running through it again.....
So we take it for a spin, but the knock is still present between 3-4k RPM.... Signs that the bearing is still sloppy on the crank, and will pound it out again.....
I took the car to my storage lot and it has sat there for roughly a month now... and here I am....
When we purchased the car, it ran beatifully, no problems... we either had **** luck or the guy stuck in transmission fluid into the oil, to hide the knock from us....
I have been researcing sites on buying a entirely new JDM H22a, on where to find the best price, and I figured I didnt' want to order out of the US due to the fact of customs and dutys, I would be paying out the ass to get it shipped here.... So I looked for somewhere local.... I found someone but turns out they want... 2800 for just the motor, and 4500 for the complete swap...
I say screw that, I can rebuild the engine for less.
Now this is where I come to you guys....
Come Sept 1st, my engine is going to be ripped out and taken fully apart to inspect it further to make sure, I don't have belt valves, or damaged cycl walls, or bent rods.... Anything like that...
But most likely I am going to be replacing..... Entire Valve train.... Rods, Piston Heads, Bearings, and the crank....
Any experts out there that can give me some reference to some good place to look for these items, or what kinda prices Im looking, or what to get...
I am lookin at probably getting Type S Pistons, for the 11 compression ratio..... Most likely going to port and polish the head, when I have it apart, etc etc.....
Any suggestion would greatly be appreciated.
