You know the wire that goes from the heater control unit through the firewall? And the cable connects to (what i call) a lever? Well that lever i mine is coroaded to crap. So, its pretty much stuck on HOT all of the time. I had the chance to change out the part a year ago when i had my engine out, but was so anxious to get it in, that i passed on it.
Well i live in VA now and the heat is too much to bare. I have no idea if this is the only problem with my AC, but i think its a good place to start. I'm trying to find that part, but its hard find/see on the pics on Majestic Honda. Can someone help me find it from the pictures given on Majectic Honda? (hondaautomotiveparts.com) I believe its under "AC Unit"
if you are in VA then you prob need either air or heat but not both at the same time, so....you could just manually change it for now until you get it fixed
Just try moving it. It's plastic but should move fairly freely one way or the other. The cable only travels ~ 1" or so, so if the cable is retracted all the way, extend it. If it's extended about 1" from the jacket then retract it.
The cable may also have fallen or broken off. I've seen this a fair bit.

thats what i'm out here trying to do right now, i think my cables are just jacked up, so i'm trying to stick it into one position, cold. My AC light is on on the heater controls, and when i move the temperture control a certain way, more air comes out, and the other way, a little less air. But i'm not getting a cold/hot feeling on either (car is turned on, obviously.)
I have a helms manual and am looking through the trouble shooting topics... My AC fan doesnt turn on... but when idling for about 25 mins on a 90 degree day, my radiator fan never came on either, yet i wasnt overheating. I don't even know if my AC is charged or not, i'm just trying to go for the EZ fix. Maybe ill go buy a recharge kit today and see if i have any luck. Any pointers, let me know!!
The intensity of the air shouldn't change if you are changing the temp lever. Only the temperature. If that's happening then I'm not sure what the deal is.
Check to make sure the rad and AC fans work before you do anything else. The rad fan should come on with the car hot, though that may take some driving around and then letting it idle for a few minutes. The car may not overheat even if the fan is dead if it's just idling and you aren't driving hard if the t-stat is working.
The air coming out will definitely not be cold if the system is discharged or the AC fan isn't working. It shouldn't any hotter than ambient, though, unless your heater valve is stuck in the hot position. In that case it should be hot as long as the engine is warm.
Ya it felt like it'd get a little cooler when i'd move the lever under the dash. I'm thinking both of my cables are shot, when i move the temperature control, the cable (including the plastic coating) bends.... the cable itself inside the plastic doesn't slide within the plastic coating. None the less, i don't care about the cables. I just wanna stick my controls and keep them in the cold postion. I disconnected the cable that goes from the slider, to the pully under the dash, but left the one on that goes through the fire wall to the heater valve. I cant manage to get that one off of the heater valve, may try to plyers and PB Blaster or something.
I suppose i'll spend the $20 for a recharge kit, and then see what i get from there. Any other tips, keep me posted. Thanks again
