Need Opinions! Chime in guys =)

Well...I found another prelude I am pretty interested in, it's a '92 Si 4WS...it's got 197k on the odo, and he says its in pretty great condition other than a head gasket (I know, not a little problem, but fixable) and timing belt. He's asking $2,000.

What I want to know, for those of you that have had the 4WS, what problems have you encountered, if any? I've heard good and bad about the system...so if you have had experience with it, lemme know! Thanks for any and all input

Sorry I can't get into any technical problems with the system as I've seen plenty of threads regarding problems on them but, I will say that having driven a 4ws in the past, I absolutely love it, and hope to someday get my hands on one.

I would personally look at it as paying 2,000 for a prelude shell with 4ws and a crappy H23-as long as it's not all rusted and the interior is in good quality, it sounds like a fair price.

If anything, I would rebuild the engine completely down the road and have a sweet 4th gen lude, 4WS with a strong, "new" engine.

Good luck with whatever you decide

Well I'm heading up to take a look at it tomorrow night, and from what I've been told the interior is in excellent condition, as well as the exterior. PLUS, I have TWO H22s with less than 70,000 sitting in my garage, so worst case scenario...you know. It hasn't been driven with the blown gasket at all, but I at least want to start her. I'm thinking...get this lude...swap in my H22 and thus have my upgrade to a VTEC, PLUS I'll have air conditioning, something I can't live without!

haha, well then there you go!
I regret not buying the 4ws I drove a few weeks ago, the price was a little a high, 4,700, for a project car but the handling of it and the "coolness" effect is def. worth it IMO. I've driven two so far and they really do feel great in like 30mph 50-60 degree turns.

Rayslude's car was 4WS, H22, turbo, he should be able to chime in. I could only imagine how fun to drive his car was.

Ok great...I am just worried about buying it, then having to worry about not only the engine and such, but the 4WS as well. It would just be my luck to buy it and have that happen lol. I know to check for the 4WS to illuminate on the dash at start-up. So we'll see! I'm bringing my trailer up there just in case, wish me luck!

Most problems with the 4ws system are either the control unit or sensor related. You'll probably have to resolder the relays in the 4ws control unit at some point. Otherwise the only problems I've seen are sensors going out.

I LOVE 4ws, swap one of your H22's in there ASAP!

+1 on that. I have an h22 in my 4ws and its great. I had a problem with the light coming on and my steering feeling funny for a while but the car sat for two weeks and now the light doesnt come on anymore and it feels great again so idk if somethin got stuck in a sensor or what but its not throwin any codes. I cant really compare the difference between driving it with the h23 and with the h22 cause the motor was blown when I bought it but its great. 4ws makes it fun to park lol cause its so damn easy. Definitely try to talk them down because a shop would charge out the ass for a head gasket job regardless whether or not the body/interior is in good condition the engine needs expensive work so I would at least try to go $1500 but its up to you. BTW what color is it?

Well it's a no-go guys you all would have cried to see what kind of shape this poor car was in. Our first clue was the battery acid chalked ALL over the entire left side of the engine bay ...we could barely get a ground on it to jump start the car. Second, we were told it was just a blown gasket, but the knock when we started her up was the tell-tale rod knock. ALSO, the interior was pretty shot...I laughed because he told me it was in pretty great condition on the inside and out. Well if that was great condition, mine must be MINT lol. Now I need to find another Si...I want air conditioning dammit !

Oh, and it was black. He said he won't accept less than $1600, so we said GOOD LUCK with that and walked. I wouldn't pay over $1000 for that poor mess.

Lol that's true! I have a '94 now (just the s...) and I've had a '95 Si before, so I know how much "nicer" they are than the '92. It's amazing how much you miss a cup holder after you don't have one! My poor 3000gt (sadly she was totaled by the neighbor boy's tractor) didn't have a cup holder, and that was sorely missed! I found another 4ws lude, but they want 6400 for her, and I'm not about to pay that much!

you might be on to something... that is highway robbery... if she decides to, we'll attribute it to karma.

Well I did find another prelude, it's a '93 s auto, so we bought it and fixed some minor things on it, and she's up for sale. Poor girl that had it thought the motor was blown when what really had happened was she didn't replace the front brakes so it was literally melting the metal and making an awful grinding and scraping noise lol....that's why you teach your daughters things about cars! She could have made a LOT more off the car and she didn't even know it. Let's just say she put it up for sale for less than $800, with only 161k on the odo, and immaculate car. It shifts better than any automatic I've driven with that mileage. No interior or exterior problems at all. We ended up paying more because we got in a bidding war with other people over it, but we still payed way less than it's worth. I'd say we got a steal If it was a stick, I'd be keeping it for sure!

Nice... I had a friend who let his brakes go way too long before... the one and only time I was in his car with the problem was on the way to the shop after I convinced him it was way past time... He had to have the front calipers replaced because there was no pad at all... the caliper was grabbing the rotor and it would KINDA stop the car... after a while and a lot of awful noise...

He went from needing a set of pads to replacing the whole works... brilliant.

PS... he was not a car person.. haha.
