Need new headgasket

Bad news...for me. I installed a new ICM because it burned out about a week ago. I started up the car and it had problems even turning over. Once it got started the idle was going up and down like crazy and sounded rough as hell. I went to the back of the car and there it was, thick white smoke. I turned off my engine and called my mechanic. He instantly said it was the headgaket. He quoted me a price of $800 to repair it. Two questions...is this the right diagnosis and is the price decent, thanks.

i've done it myself... its a lot of work.

I had a bad idle, but I think it was a vacuum leak, and my coolant wasn't put in right. Of course that white smoke is definetly bad headgasket

yea b/c the head gasket itself is like $80-100, but labor is a lot, and you might havta replace some parts in the process....
