okay, so the worse happened, i've posted a couple threads saying how my car over heats at idle and what not, but i just put in the shop a few days ago, and they said they recommend i get a new engine.
i think what they said, when they called my dad, (im 17 btw) is i cracked a cylinder or something, or bad heads or w/e, im not to good with the knowlege of those parts, soooo im in a pickle right now, im still in high school, and i dont make too much money (100 dollars a week)
but i think im going to far for an engine swap, but im not going to be able to do it right away
i currenly have a H23A1 (its blue) in the engine (the old one) with 120,000 miles on it.
could someone give me a price on how much it would cost to sell it for parts or possibley in bulk?
i'm thinkin about putting in the H22 JDM engine, cause they have more HP.
give me some advice on some engines, give me specs, and priceses, and i want the fastes one..
i dont know if this matters but my prelude has 4WS and its automatic
i know its cheaper to get another H23A1, but i want a Vtec since i already need to get a new engine anyway, one of my local friends says he can probably find me a vtec with less than 60,000 miles on it, probably for $800, is this good??
and hes days he'll install one for $400.
osofast- thats really good, you even made under $1000
js- he's going to take a look at as soon as i get it back, and i do trust cause he put in a motor in his integra, with one friend in 6 hours.
the shop i took my car to says they dont think its a good idea to put in a H22 cause it already has an H23, my friend just said that i needed converted parts or w/e but its no problem cause the h22 already comes with the vtec parts i need.
personally, I would just change the head gasket and get it running if that's all it is. you will be out a few hours of labor, lots of learning, and less than $100 - save up and get a h22 later
yeah, i may do that.
i'm not sure what i want to do anymore..
i tried looking for some web sites that sold JDM engines, but i cant find a decently priced one.
i have a h23 w/146000 on it if interested let pm me and let me know i will let it go pretty cheap i live in ny so i dont know what the shipping would be
Why did you keep driving it while it was in this condition? You should have garaged it until you could get it fixed. I had a bad thermostat which was causing it to overheat, wasn't even that expensive to fix.
sqard - i'll keep you in mind, but im really lookin for a H22 VTEC, cause i had a H23 :P
but is there anything wrong with it???
mini- i did cause i didnt know it was a blown head gasket, and it turned out that a fan wasnt spinning, soooooooo, i messed up.. but in the bright side i get to do a H22 VTEC swap
yeah i have 287,000 miles and ive replaced the head gasket twice since i owned it, so if you do decide to get a head gasket kit and fix it, be SURE it isnt a ebay one. it took about 4000 miles to fail.

gotcha..
how much is it for the head gasket? and the labor?
i may get the head gasket fixed and then save up for the engine...
but if its in the 400-500 dollar range. in just gonna go for the VTEC
yeah, he offered to do that as well, but he has a friend with a 93 pelude who is interested in fixing it himself and he wants to buy it from me.
how much could i sell my H23 with 119,000 mles(blown goasket)?
i just want to get the JDM H22 VTEC.
I wouldn't sell the h23 as a complete swap.I would part it out.On one of those sites that you can sell things on(fear of advertising haven't been here long).I did this with a d series motor in a 95 civic and it paid for the swap.It was a d series vtec but its still vtec.. good luck
