need help please...

ok so i bought a 1992 honda prelude si 2.3L sohc(5 speed) for a project car and was told all it needed was a distributor in order for it to be running...bought the distributor and the car started right up, now the complicated part the windshield wipers run constantly at a slow speed until you turn switch to high which they speed up, but wont turn off, the fuel and temp gauges kinda surge in tempo with the windshild wipers, and the speedometer doesnt work i noticed the other day the rpm gauge occasionally jumps around, can anyone give me any incite into these problems are they all connected? im new to honda it would be greatly appreciated....

Best place to start is probably the fuses. Check them all, then move to relays and switches. Fuze 13 I belive is what protects all the dash lights, speedo, tach that kinda stuff. See if you can open up the stearing column and unplug the switch for the wipers and see if that fixes it. If not you may have bigger problems.

i checked the fuses and they are all good. i already replaced the windshield wiper switch(thinking that was the problem) but no improvement, i also noticed that when i turned the windshield wipers on to high, the entire dash blacks out no lights at all. ive read about loose grounds affecting the electronic components like this ive also read that it could b the icu. is there a way to check the all the relays without replacing them all?

it sounds like to me you have a shorted wire or most likely a wire harness connection that is shorted and probabley burned or fused together. get a wire diagram and look for the comman points in the wiring of all the affected systems and start unplugging the connecters and inspect them. if you have a ohm meter you can shoot the wires for continuity and to see if it is grownded where it shouldn't be. remove the fuse from the wiper and then see if you get any voltage on your ohm meter at the switch. the wiper motar is easy to get to under the winshield lower cowling, if you want to check power there after you remove the fuse. wiring diagrams may seem hard to read at times but a little time and study, its not bad.
