need advice big time

I've been looking for half a year now to get another prelude and i may have finally found one.. its a 93 SI with a jdm h22a in it for $4000 and it has a few mods that i don't feel like listing.. the catch is that the car periodically won't start.. and he doesn't know what is wrong with it.. he doesn't want to take it to a shop because its a hassle.. and if he does and whats wrong with the engine is cheap to fix then he'll do that and jack up the price on the car. my dilemma is i don't know whether it makes sense to buy a car that i know isn't working 100%. The car started today and was on for 20 minutes.. and he revved it without any weird noises or anything.. so i think it should be a small problem. I also was thinking if the engine is in fact really messed up i could just get a h22a long block. Sorry for the jumbled paragraph.. any advice will be great, thanks in advance.

I personally wouldnt buy a car for 4k that didn't start unless you knew what was wrong with it. You could also front him with 3k cash, and see if he will bite. Then you would have 1k left over to fix the problem.

I would go with what willmbrk said, I would think that it is either a bad starter solenoid, ignition issue, or a wiring problem from the swap. If you are pretty comfortable with working around cars and understand basic wiring and can read wiring diagrams then buy it and a helms and start to troubleshoot

Ask him if it makes any clicking noise's when it wont start or if it turns over at all...
