My vent is sticking

Its really starting to piss me off...whenever I hit the upper vent button it sticks on whatever it was on previously and I have to bang on the dash for it to get unstuck. I tried spraying some wd40 on the plastic linkages and got it to work fine for about 5 minutes or so. Is there a particular linkage I should hone in on and what kind of lube should i use?

The vents are electronically controlled. I dunno if the wd40 would help but it sounds like you have the common problem 4th gens do. The solder joints on the circuit board that control the vents are bad. Banging on the dash sometimes helps. There was a write up somewhere on how to fix this. I've done it my self. You have to take the circuit board out of the vent control and just resolder the points.

FAQ: 4Gen Climate Control Fix (flickering lights, non changing vents, sporadic a/c)

edit: well thats exactly what my problem was...horrible solder joints on the circuit board. I resoldered and its working perfectly now. Thanks for the writeup!
