My Review of the Forbidden Motorsports short shifter
Hey guys,
Since I am local here in AZ, I picked up my shifter last night from 4bidden. I figured I might as well post up my initial impressions.
We installed it in a good 20-30 min. Install was very straight forward and easy as all the necessary parts were swapped over from the stock shifter. I went ahead and used the middle mounting hole.
Initial impressions were very good! If I had to choose one word to describe it, I would have to say "Solid".
The shortness of the throw compared to stock was very noticeable to me. In addition to the shortening of the throw, the shifts felt crisper, and more exact. I was very impressed by the throw from 2-3. It seemed greatly improved and probably even shorter then the 1-2 shift with the stock shifter.
When shifting normally, you can feel it right before the shifter slips into gear, but when driving spiritedly, the shifts are smooth as butter. Also, I believe the shortness of the throws lend it self to a better "grabbing feeling", kind of like when you get a new clutch. Downshifts are especially improved...very crisp. The shift from 5th to 3rd at 70 is my favorite
Going back to my one word description above, the shifter gives the car an overall more solid feeling and I guess I could describe it as better feeling of control. Also, another thing I noticed was that with the stock shifter I had a lot of shaking in it, espcially in 5th gear with a little pressure on the shifter. With the new shifter, I have virtualy no shaking. I'd say it has been eliminated 90-95%, which was an unexpected bonus.
Other observations:
- Shifter was a little stiff for the first 10 shifts or so, but it has since loosened up.
- Shifter sits further over to the right when in neutral as it lacks the curve of the stock shifter. Looks a little weird, but Im sure Ill get used to it. Doesnt affect shifts at all.
Overall, I come away with the feeling that the car is just more fun to drive, which was definately my most important expectation when I purchased it.
Well, thats it guys. Let me know if you guys want me to clarify something or if you have any questions.
I still have shifters available guys, so if you want one, I have one for you.
I expect to run out right around Christmas time or a little after. Keep my email handy and email me if you guys want one and I'll let you know if I still have some left.

looks like a promising review. i'll be sure to leave feedback for you guys also, as soon as i receive the shifter.
b-t-w: 92h22a, do you have any pics of the shifter installed and in the neutral position?
I got my shifter in the mail today (Friday)... I will be installing it at the SoCal meet tomorrow, so everyone can see it. The shifter is beautiful to say the least. Almost makes me want to run with no boot. Im a very happy guy, and thanks for shipping mine early 4Bidden, it was much appreciated. I will give my review tomorrow.
Also, for comparison....look at how a real C's sits over. It has similar bends (i.e. - no side bends) so it does the same thing. The Japanese didn't think it warranted a change on their C's, neither did I, because it is hardly noticable. This is the same kind of angle that 92H22A snapped that makes it look way far over.
Which reminds me, that thing will be on eBay soon so if you know anyone who wants to waste their money and buy it instead of mine, tell them to check eBay within the next few days or so. I managed to salvage it from the machine shop but it does have a few imperfections now which will be mentioned in the auction.
