Hi everyone, I am fairly new to working with cars too (had about a couple months of experience). yesterday I was cleaning the ground wire on my battery on my 96 prelude and had the passenger window half way open. my little nephew came over and was messing around with the door. so when i was done with the cleaning and putting things away, the window wont roll up. I have searched google for answers and searched PO for answers...but i feel that i am not getting the answer I was looking for. so I started this thread. hopefully you guys can help me.
so my assumption to the problem is that my little nephew hung himself on the window and forced it to go down and destroyed something inside. the driver side window still works fine. earlier today, I tried to take the cover apart but couldn't. the only parts that I was able to take apart was the handle cover and a screw on the top left corner of the cover. The cover was getting loose, I could shake it, but wasn't sure what i did was right and what else i needed to unscrew and take off first.
Can anyone give me any suggestions of how to take this apart and what i need to look for or expect as I have never done this before? and possibly what the cause would be?
I hope i have given enough details.
the car is a 96 prelude
2.3 L engine v-tek
automatic
the windows are power windows
Take off the handle/switch trim, remove the pocket in the armrest area. Then remove one screw on the top-front corner and one on the bottom-rear corner of the panel (might have caps). Then the panel is held on by clips around the perimeter. Be gentle, and when the clips are all loose pull up on the panel to remove it.
i have checked every possible switch to see if it'll work. and it didn't work. it wouldn't roll up using the switch that is on the passenger side either.
Thanks G Loc for reminding me. I don't think i have a window lock...or at least i don't remember seeing it. will check on that.
ok, this morning, i managed to take off cover, it was actually easier than i thought. thanks to you guys. but the problem is, i can't fix it. I unscrewed the mechanism (sorry I don't know the names of these parts) that hold the base of the window and tried to force it to turn, but it was incredibly hard. then after looking at it for a while, i noticed the big black cylinder that looks like a screw on where it would pivot. i tried to turn it with a flat screw driver, but it was also incredibly hard.
however i did managed to get the window up manually after taking off the screws from the mechanism, but it wouldn't stay up. do you guys know how to reset this to it's original position? will it work if it's back to it's original position?
i need to get my window working again as my car wouldn't be safe the way it is for too long. thanks guys.
I had the same problem too. Except I figured out I had a window lock switch..ha. Did you try connecting a positive and a negative wire from the battery directly to the window motor? It'll go up if the motor is good, so that way you know the motor works.
hey you guys, thanks a lot for giving me feedback. i just got it to work this morning. yes i did tear down the door panel, and took the motor out. tested the motor with the battery and it still works. I also tested the wires that connects to the motor and everything still work fine. i even took the motor apart and see if there were any corrosion...of course there wan't...it sucks to put this thing back together. so confused and not knowing what to do, I had to call one of my dads uncle over and we were testing it...and it turned out to be the window lock. swore, i checked the window lock when G Loc mentioned it and it didn't work, but somehow it works now...so i'm pretty happy. thanks for everything guys.
