Well I am starting my exhaust for my next mod, I know my stock cat, and my stock muffler is probably hurting my performance, especially with my nitrous so here is my first step at my exhaust modifications, and still keeping in with my stealthy mode as I like, so here ya go.
I picked up a stock cat and did a little of my own modifying to improve flow.
Here is my stock cat notice that you can't see through it very well,
Now here is the one I picked up and cut it open and removed the insides and welded it back together, notice it's clear all the way through, the beauty about thise is that it still bolts right up and with the factory heat shields, so no one will know.
Here's both of them side by side, I painted the new one with some high temp black to cover up the welded area so it doesn't rust, if you look close you can see the section I cut and welded.
I hope this gives me some good gains when combined with my new exhaust when I get it, and my nitrous.

i had gone the catless route for over a year... the buzzing got annoying and whenever my friends were following me, they complained it smelled like crap...
This is more of a trial and error just to see what it's like, I already took it for a test drive tonight and I don't like the sound it makes, I don't however smell any different kind of odor, I will check on that too, this cat was free so I figured why not at least try it.

Where does the rattle come from? I mean, if i have no cat then it cant be making any noise.
I was thinking the noise was being caused by my removed resonator. Since i did both at one time i wouldnt know the difference.
Remember, if you try to stay too stealth and use the stock mufffler, you know what mine sounds like right now.
I was shooting to get my muffler soon, but i might have to live with the rattle a little longer. I was going up a hill and was on it hard, getting on the freeway. I shifted into second and there was a good deal of slippage. Im guesssing my clutch has only has 3-4 months before its completely dead. And my 3rd gear is starting to grind. Looks like its time for my jdm vtec tranny and new clutch. But ill need a good 800-900$ for that.
Then comes the muffler then finally if nothing else has broken, my Vafc.

i have no idea what causes the rattle/buzzing sound. i had the annoying sound for over a year with the test pipe. i never knew it sounded so bad till one day i valet parked my car and heard what it sounded like when they drove my car off.
i had a rattle with a high flow cat, because for some reason it pushed my dc headers up and snapped the support for the headers. i had it welded twice then just took it off, no more problems since.
I've been driving it around trying to find this buzz, it's not a heat shield I don't think, I think it is actually a form of a echo of some sorts, because the exhaust is filling the big void in the actual cat, kind of like yelling in a cave or something, that's my guess. I don't know.
