Ok so one day i was driving, and i went to close my moon roof while driving, and when it settled down into the roof, it was still slightly open. So i reached my left hand out, and forced it down while holding the button closed.
from then on, it was closing normally.
About a week later, it did it again... so i forced it down again. Well, now it wont open. I hit the button, and the panel moves up about a half an inch, then stops... and the motor stops trying to get it up also. Is it burnt out? Or hung up on something? I mean it is almost 10 yrs old...
The sunroof panel (or maybe some other part of the mechanism?) is slightly out of alignment, so it starts lifting up too late and the weather stripping gets caught on the edge of the roof behind it. When it happens to me, I just give it a slight push up and it opens fine.
there's also a manual override for the sunroof if it ever gets stuck. there's a circular cover in the ceiling that you can remove. Under this there is a manual open/close point for the sunroof. I think you need an alan wrench... or there should be a special tool for this in the toolkit that's in the trunk. Try to open it this way.
Ok i got to the allen wrench spot... but once it gets to the point where it gets stuck using the button, it gets stuck again... So i was looking closer at it, and it looks like it gets hung up on the drivers side, because the passenger corner comes up a little higher. I tried prying it up as high as i could to see if something was blocking the slider.. but i didnt see anything. The problem is, i cant get the roof up high enough to grease the tracks. I've narrowed it down to 1. dry tracks or 2. foreign subtance blocking it.. But i cant GET to the tracks to see what it could be.
^^ hit it from the inside.. well don't "hit" it.. I mean remove the sunroof panel to expose the rails then grease them up... & you can also see what's causing the jam.
^^ it may be a bit difficult, or even impossible, to remove the liner if the sunroof isn't lifting up enough
ya like i said, it doesnt even tilt up enough to get a finger under it... I've pried it up as much as i can from the outside with a screw driver, but not nearly enough to see if anything is stuck in it, or to get grease in there
