My Lude Died Tonight :( :( :(

I am so sad!!!!!!! I have a Silver 93 Si....the paint looks brand spankin new!!! And it has some custom wheels from Honda. It's nice. Anyways, onto my story. I was coming home from a blind date, by myself, and I was on the interstate. I started loosing power so I downshifted to 4th and still, NO POWER. I continued going and eventually got back up to 65 mph and then the oil light came on and then went off. So, I heard some grinding noises and then the light started blinking and I was like "oh my goodness" and pulled off the road. Then as soon as I was off the road, the engine just died. I tried to crank it back up and it wouldn't even turn over. It just kinda was there and doing nothing. I called my dad so he came and picked me up. Oil was in there and it was full. To the full mark. I thought that it may be an electrical problem, but I am not sure what? Has anyone else had this problem?

sounds like an oil pressure problem maybe (see above post)? I've never heard of the blinking oil light though. Have a reputable mechanic check it out and give you an estimate. If it's over $1,000 or so, just scrap that engine and swap in a H22 or H23 as funds allow. The engine swap isn't difficult at all, especialy the H23. You and a few friends could probably do it working a few hours a night for a few days. Good luck man, hope for the best.

H22

I hate the H23!!!!! It's either VTEC or 300ZX. It might get stolen tonight...who knows? How hard is it to swap out the engines? I know a little bit about maintenence, but not engine swaps. About how much for an H22?

Me and my friend dropped a GSR engine into his civic, and it was very straightforward. The H22 swap should be even easier than that. Everything on teh engine wiring harness should just plug right up, and you may need to run a few extra wires for VTEC, but thats about it.

It could be distributor, check this out first. I had to replace one in my '94 VTEC 117,000. The car would run, but occasinally would loose a lot of power.

It definitely sounds like an oil pressure related problem. My Si did the same thing before it quit on me. My brothers drove it up to 120mph...the day I told them I needed to change the oil. So after cussing them out, I found out that I spun a bearing. I'm ditching the H23 and going H22. If the H23 is salvageable, I'll probably rebuild it and drop it into a Civic hatch or something.

Also, before the engine stalled...there was this horrible grinding/knocking/rattling noise from under the valve cover. Breaking down sucks! I guess it can be an excuse to get an H22.

Reminds me of a story, I was driving cross-country in my 92 Sentra SE-R towing about a thousands pounds worth of trailer. Somewhere in Tennessee traffic gets stopped on the interstate due to an 18 wheeler jack-knifing. I take some exit and go into a gas station, come back, start the car and it's running rough. What had happened was one plug had fouled and I was running on three cylinders. I'm kinda out in the middle of nowhere so I decide to get on the interstate going to the other way and find a hotel. Limp it to the hotel, next day fire it up and it just barely runs (it's on two cylinders now.) Disconnect the trailer and limp it to a gas station a few blocks down the road. This guy looked like he had never seen an import much less worked on one. Ended up having to have it towed to a Honda dealer (it was Chatanooga I think) and replace the spark plugs. That wasn't cheap!

Why didn't you just buy a set of sparkplugs and install them yourself?

Cause I didn't know what was wrong with it until the mechanic diagnosed the problem.

this is exactly what mine did....

same problem... crusiing along and then no power, then a little then quite... i hate to tell you what happned to mine...

the timming belt broke.. it broke due to the waterpump seizing.. chek the timming belt, when mine broke it bent vavles and basically destroyed the head of the car and some damage in teh bottom end occured too... i put a JDM H22a1 in there in place.. its a simple drop in swap, add a few wires for the vtec and your good to go.... i hope that maybe helps a bit

sorry about your luck man... btw... how was the blind date?

hehehe

Mine died also

My Lude Died on Christmas eve at about 11:00 at night.. It was me and my girlfriend near LAX. It lost power completely above 3000 rpms then i tried babying it but it died. I parked it in a good street and left it till the day after christmas. I got it towed to honda and they took care of the 300$ towing bill. My distribitor pretty much self distructed but since i payed for the warranty they fixed it for free, well besides a new cap and rotor. She is running great again and soon she will have her turbO.

Your problem besides the OIL Gauge sounds like a dead Coil.
