hey, my friend was in my car when i was warming up the car and he said my idle is abnormally high. it was around 50 F outside i believe. my idle started at a hair above 1500 then slowly went down. he said 1500 is too high but for as long as i know, its been like that. i just think hes used to the other cars hes had. but i just wanted to confirm anyway with you guys. the ecu adjusts idle anyway so i dont think its high. and i know the colder it is, the higher the starting idle and the warmer it is, the lower the idle, but even in this temp, he says its abnormal. so just to confirm, is 1600rpm a normal starting idle?
I can't get mine below 900-1k. the adjusting screw is all the way down... any ideas?

from the search that i did previous to posting my thread, it doesnt matter how much you adjust the idle screw because the ecu compensates. youre only hope is to get a hondata and adjust the computer.
You can't get your normal idle uder 1k?.. or your warmup idle?
normal idle. its a jdm h23 I swapped in. vacuum and stuff seems good. warmup is like 1700 rpm and then comes down to 900-1k

Yah on cold start your FITV is the thing raising your idle at cold start by kicking coolant through the TB to help warm up and compensate for the cold engine... lots of people block this off; doesn't really do as much for you in warmer places as it would freezing areas. After the cooling fans come on you should be around 800 for warm idle. You can adjust that with the udle screw. Just take your flat head and adjust it... not really like you're taking anything apart to "fix" it.

No such thing. H23's were Outside of Japan only. H23's never came in preludes in Japan. But aside from that.. yes your idle is a bit high but it's not that serious. A normal idle is @ 750-850 rpm.. you're close.
And as for the idle screw compensation... it works on OBD1 cars fine, OBD2 is a different story. You should be able to easily and greatly control your idle speed with the screw... and if you can turn the screw all the way in and get no change, then you have a leak in your TB or IM somewhere.

well yeah where ever it came from. I know it wasn't from here because a lot of the vacuum connections, fuel rail, etc were reversed from my h23 indicating right hand drive. edm maybe?

Or if you're like me, your IM was warped and wasn't seating properly causing the vac leak ... spray carb cleaner all over your vacuum hoses to test for leaks.

I always thought my idle was a little low since it is approx. 750 rpm normally. I asked a friend who is a Honda tech and he told me that it's fine, but it just seemed low to me. As long as he says it's fine- I'll go with that.
