My H23 VTEC Dyno

For those that wanted to see it, here it is:

Gained 23whp and 17wtq off ecu tuning.

These numbers are low, and may point to the fact that there was a problem from the beginning...it should have been pulling 220whp...anyways..enjoy..

So this is with a Crower stage 3 camshaft?? Is this the before and after result?? Or are other things also boosting hp numbers??

Also how is the IDLE?? Please give an honest FULL description of idle. I am getting Crower camshafts. I want as much power as possible, but the car IS a daily driver. My GF needs to be able to drive the car still, so any explanation would be great.

What you're getting crower cams and you have a supercharger?

The gain was from fuel and spark tuning, not the cams. The cams were part of the original number of 180hp on a stock ecu...

My idle was noisy but that was because of the forged pistons. We had a stalling problem, but fixed it by adding 17% fuel between 0-1000 on a v-afc...

what is the A/F ratio at idle??

And to set the record straight: I have 2 friggin motors! One is for NA buildup!

What is needed for fuel upgrade?? I did a JR fuel pump and coil, but am curious about injectors too. How does the stock ECU run with these cams, if its even possible?

Basically here is what I got for my motor buildup so far, maybe you can give me some pointers etc:

Injen CAI
Hondata gasket
Crower stage 2 or 3 cams(cant decide which)
Crower dual spring/retainer kit
Crower Valves(if needed as I am keeping stock valves, NO oversizing)
AEM cam gears
AEM pulleys
RC eng injectors(which size? 310's?)
Thinner head gasket(where is a good place to get one?)

Sorry for whoring ur thread, just that you have crower stuff so I want opinions.

Head: 3 angle valve job, port matching, anything else beneficial?

Your getting 200whp from what mods exactly??

I;m not convinced my motor was running properly, and now it's busted so go figure...anyways these were the engine specific mods at that time:

AEM CAI
64mm TB
Ported IM
RC 370cc injectors
P&P head
Crower Stage 3
Crower Valvetrain
Arias 11.5 pistons in Darton Sleeves (87mm bore)
H23 crank + rods
Unorthodox Pulley
DC CC header
Tanabe G Power Exhaust
Custom GS-R p72 ecu

I think the Tanabe exhaust was limiting the top end, as well as the H23 crank...I'm not sure but a lot more power should have been made.

My new setup is in the H22/H23 hybrid thread, I'm destroking to 2.1L with and F20B crank to see if I can produce a really wide powerband from 4500-8000 rpms...

Opinions, I'm not sure yet, we never got a change to advance/retard the cam timng to get more gains, so I can't give you a definitive answer. I sure liked the way VTEC sounded though

Actually you are probably about 8-10 ponies away from max hp numbers with that setup from calculations on other motors. BTW how do you like the darton sleeves? Are they the ones that close off the top deck?

My motor is closed deck stock, so there was no difference.

Sorry I should add that before fuel tuning the Crower 3's idled fine. It was only after we ran the GS-R ecu we had the problem. I think it had to do with the fuel pressure and the RC's not behaving properly...

But on a stock ecu they idled fine.

Why don't you e-mail crower, they've tested their cams obvuiously.

are these numbers at the wheels?. Wheel horsePower or are these the base numbers? (at the crank/flywheel).

your graphs say "flywheel power graph", and "flywheel torque graph" but your sig says 203 whp. isn't that wheel horsepower?

just wondering...

That's just what Dynapack Dynos say...if you read the scale it says HP SAE....

Anyways if that was my flywheel power with all those mods I would cry like a little girl...

LOL... That's what I'd do too!.

those are pretty good numbers to start off with!!! did you have to do any modifications to your H23 block? I was gonna do this a while back when I had my 93 si, but I was told that you would have to modify the block so that the oil orifices would match those in the h22 head.

Well I didn't build the motor, but I am under the impression that the H23 has all the oil holes pre drilled unlike the LS/VTEC type of hybrid...

I think there's an oil orifice that's plugged on the H23 that you just have to unplug, but I don't think you need to modify the block

there is a plug on the top of the block when you take the head off.. it's located between the 2nd and 3rd cylinder on the back side... simply pull the plug out of the orface, and the block is set up for the h22 head to bolt on.. you must use h22 head bolts, and replace any gear that touches the timing belt with h22 gears though...
