I know on the H23 the shift fork is a little off, so when you try to shift into fifth at high RPM, it will grind. Might be the same for you. I know of a lot of people with this problem, and I think Honda put out a TSB for it.

If its grinding, its more than likely the synchros.

Let us know what turns up.

If its not the VTEC transmission the rpms will be lower at highway speeds. The Si tranny bolts right up to the H22, but it should have a code on the transmission case itself that you can cross reference.

i'll give a couple examples other than syncros...

pressure plate torqued too tight

sticking pressure plate fingers...rare

disc too thick...yes, even new.

dirty ass gears

i've read about 2 of the four and have experienced the other two. the dirty ass gears was my 2.3 tranny. grinded 3rd at all speeds. not too harsh that i couldn't get it in, but enough to scare me. i pulled it apart, didn't see anything wrong. i just cleaned it up real nice nice, lubed and put her back in. same clutch, blah blah. no grind. i figure there was some metal in the tooth channels of the collar sleeves or syncro keeping the collar from sliding up/down smooth.

good luck
