My engine is loud. Help me!

I dont know what it is, for all i know it could be in my head, but when my car runs, I hear a steady and continous loud clicking noise... Here's an attachment of what it sounds like.. My friend on this board has an auto lude and I started his car and let it idle and it idle's much quieter than mine.. I dunno what it is.. here's a mp3 of my engine...

its a pretty consistent clicking type sound.. might be normal but at least I can let some experts hear it and let me know if thats valve knock or something serious.. Let me know..

If its alright with the mods, I'm gonna post this same thread in General discussion to get the 5th genner's opinion too... If not I'll delete the thread in general...

thanks guys.

Listen here.. File size= 160k MP3 Format

For those that dont know, I have a h23 5-Speed

edit: keep in mind i had the microphone a half inch away from the engine itself..... so its quieter then that inside the car and 20 feet away, imagine putting your head right over the headers, thats the volume leve you're hearing...

thats one bad sound

Can you pinpoint the location of the noise? Does it make any clanking noise after you rev it and let the revs drop?

I'm not saying this might be your prob but its something to look out for. Well, about a year and a half ago i had someone do my timing belt. And they screwed up. The bracket for the timing belt tensioner was all bented up, and there was too much tension. Eventually after a year it started making a really bad noise. I thought my engine crapped out because i lost most of my oil or something. Turned out that the tensioner just went bad from the mechanic who worked on it previous. Keep in mind that this is a manual tensioner (h23) and not an auto one for the h22. I thought these babies are suppose to last forever. Anyways, pop your valve cover and see if the t-belt is either really tight or loose. The noise for my car was coming from the lower timing belt area. Good Luck

it sounds like the same problem like i had before when my distributor went bad....like a metal to metal grinding sound...i would take it to a mechanic asap if i were you...and where is the sound coming from?...which part of the engine is it coming from?

link didn't work. but are you sure its not a rod bearing? i would definitely have it checked out asap. if possible have it towed to a shop and have them look at it. you don't want to spin a bearing.

hm.. That doesn't sound too healthy.. I'd take it to your local Honda dealer and have one of their mechanics look at it.. What are the mods to your car and what size shot have you been running? Also, how many miles are on the motor and when was the last time she had a tune-up?
