1993 VTEC w/ 170,000 miles
------------------------------------
Okay I was drivin back from downtown the other night and I suddenly noticed that I couldn't accelerate very quickly. To test it out, I stopped at a stop light and I kind of floored it and when it hit VTEC it kinda did this wierd thing. It slowed down quite fast and just kind of just "bumped". Kind of hard to explain. Well, I just let off and just drove a little further and I stopped at a McDonald's to check it out. First I shut the engine off and then tried starting it again. It made this wierd starting noise and it didn't start. So I wiggled the dist. coil (the end of it is kind of screwed up so you have to play with it). After like 3 tries, it finally started but when it did, the head made this loud clicking noise. And it seemed to get louder and louder the more I let it run. So now I am thinking its a bent rod or valve or some ****. I guess I will just have to have it sent to an auto shop and have it checked out.
if its just acting up when its hot, as in not starting and such, then you may have a bad main relay.... that means that the fuel pump isnt getting the msg from the relay that it need fuel. its quite common to happen in hot weather.

Hey, if I have to end up getting a new motor, I am probably going to consider Hmotors. I already have the H22 currently. Should I buy just the long block or should I do the complete change over?
If you have the h22 already just get the long block and save some $$. Unless u wanna get some spare parts like the altenator, etc. Cant really do much with the JDM distributor though, unless you modify it... also get the JDM downpipe, its bigger.
If you have a bent rod you'll get uneven wear in that cylinder because the piston isn't going straight up and down like it should. Do a compression check and if you get bad numbers drop a cap of oil in each cylinder and do it again. If the wet compression check comes out fine start looking for other causes besides a bent rod.
Well, the shop called me today and told me the problem with the engine. They said my timing belt tensioner went bad and that caused it to bend a few valves. They haven't pulled the head off because that would cost me some money but they just estimated that there were 4 bent valves. With parts and labor the guy told me it would be $1900 to fix. There is no way in hell that I am paying that much to get the engine "fixed" when I can get an engine with 25,000 miles on it shipped for $1500.
Do you live in Florida, I could help you pull the head. It's really not that hard. The only thing you want to be sure of before you take it all apart......are you ready to spring the extra cash if one of your pistons is cracked from it's encounter with the valve??? I doubt it but I have heard of it happening. BTW If you pull the head yourself, it should cost you under $300 for a shop to resurface the head and install new valves + your car being down for week....Peace Out
