my cars engine grinds at exactly 2900 rpm in or out of gear

I have a 92 si prelude with a built h23 motor and an f22 transmission. over the past week, my car has developed a grind at exactly 2900 rpm. At 2800 theres no noise and at 3000 rpm theres no noise. Even if i am parked and just rev the engine it will grind, so im pretty sure its not the transmission. It may be a belt but I cant pin point the noise. Needless to say, i am lost. it doesnt seem to be affecting the performance at all but i love my car and the fact that its grinding at all is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated =)

Dude, had the same problem after I JUST put in my motor and trans like a week ago. My dumbass forgot to torque the flywheel bolts. the clutch wouldnt engage good and when i reved to about 3 grand my engine made a grind/vibration. I took the engine out yesterday and torqued them back. Im not saying this is your problem cause it might not be... but if you dont find anything else wrong it might be. I can give you some pics of the flywheel bolt damage if you want...

thank u man. the flywheel came on the engine and it was supposedly done professionally so I would assume they would torque it right. Your problem is just about identicle to mine. the only difference is my clutch engages good and there doesnt appear to be any vibration. If worst comes to worst ill check it out

After i posted this i remembered i did a valve ajustment around the same time the noise started could that produce a grind at a specific rpm?

My h23 makes a rattling sound, when I adjust valves it goes away , but it comes back in a few months. Probably not the same thing as you have, as mine makes noise around 2300 or so I think.
