my car will not turn, the steering wheel turns but not wheels...

A few of weeks ago my power steering started making annoying noises, then eventually I had no power steering, thus I had to drive everywhere without power steering, which is fine and Im going to get a power steering pump and hope that fixes it. However a few days ago, there started to be loud noises when I turned that sound like they are not but a foot from the steering wheel almost inside the car, like ...umm screeching type noises. Well as I wait until I get paid in a couple of days to get this checked out, tonight while I was driving I turned but the steering wheel just wouldn't "catch" and I couldnt turn! almost caused a wreck while everyone was honking at me, luckily I stayed calm and tried to turn a certain way to get out of the sitation...finally got home a while ago safely (after spending 10 minutes just to turn into my apartment complex)

Oh yeah not to mention about a month ago the car started "ticking" when I turn which I assume is the cvboot, so it seems the whole axle/steering system is really messed up.
Well now here I am stranded with no steering and I dont really know at all what the problem could be or if I can fix it whilst my car is parked here. Of course I have to be at work in the morning ..etc.c.. argh

If anyone has any ideas on what this could be or how I can fix it that would be great.
its a '93 Si VTEC hybrid

thanks

sounds like a rack and pinion problem, although i know its not.

i would check your control arms and make sure they are connected properly, and just work your way from the wheels to the steering column.
