My car has a weird whistling noise...need help...

Hey,
When I accelerate it sounds like my car is spoolin up. It is really annoying because it isn't normal It whistles, and it gets higher pitched the higher I rev. I need to figure it out, I can't tell what it is from under the hood because it isn't noticeable when you are under the hood.
THanks,
Josh

it could either be you're stareo system (bad ground) or you intake (aftermarket, i've heard this whistle)

It comes from under the hood. It didn't do it when I had my h23, it only started now that I have my h22. I should also mention that I changed my timing belt when I swapped my motor. The timing is proper. I just wanted to mention this.
Thanks, josh

I get that in mine too.

Mine is present at idle, and then increases in pitch with the RPMs. It started occurring right after I got my timing and balancer belts changed. I'm pretty sure mine is coming from the balancer belt being on too tight.

The spoolin sound is pretty nice though... almost more of a supercharger whistle sometimes.

I get mine in neutral too.. so I think that rules out gear related stuff for me.

I got the same thing after my timing belt was changed. the problem is that the belt tensioner is too tight and causes a "supercharger whine."

I've heard that it is not very good to have the tensioner that tight and it should be corrected. However, I was very lazy and never brought it back to be fixed.

I believe the con to not getting it fixed results in the tensioner needing to be replaced sooner.

It must be the balance belt, cause my timing belt is not too tyte, it is at a good tension. I read somewhere that skunk 2 cam gears whine, is that true, cause I have them.

My car does that also. I can't hear it when I rev the engine sitting still, but when I'm moving it makes that blower whine. I can hear it in neutral also. Maybe I have a very small referee inside my engine.

Oh...and maybe its b/c I have 144k miles on my car

I had a JR header on my Prelude that made a whistle sound as the rpms would rise and you opened up the throttle. Sounded somewhat like boost. The sound wasn't very loud, but you could notice it as you drove.

I was told that it was common with some headers. I checked for leaks just to make sure, but found that it was indeed the header itself.

It worked great. I noticed a gain throughout the rpm band.

In my case it wasn't the header. I didn't even have a header when I noticed the whine. The day I picked up the car after having the timing belt replaced, I noticed the sound. For me, the problem is the belt tensioner.

Same exact problem here Mark. When I picked it up from getting the timing and balancer belts done, I started hearing it.
