My Car Died 1 Hour Ago!!!!! R.i.p.

i was driving my car on the highway and i was doing like 80 today then i started hearing a clacking noise. loud. so i pulled over (oil light was on) checked my oil. it was fine. then i left to go back home and it got so loud that i pulled over. i was there for 30 min before i got someone with a cell phone and gave me a ride home with my girfriend (we were on the way to the beach) came back with my dad and he drove it home. i followed in my moms maxima. i almost cried as i heard the sound get louder and smoke pour out from my whole engine and all over the car. it kept stalling. we got back to my house and popped the hood welcomed by a cloud of smoke and saw oil EVERYWHERE. my oil pump went. my engine is toast. i cant afford this right now i need to do a whole swap. i figured i want to get an h22. anyone know the best place to get a CHEAP h22 preferably locally. im from massachussetts. thanx

The oil light does not mean that your oil was low. It means that you had low oil pressure which is very bad. Maybe your oil pump went out. Whenever you see the oil light you are not supposed to keep driving your car.

what's the difference between the longblock and the complete package? if my h23 is running fine can I just buy the longblock and perform the swap?

i think the head and valves are the most of my problems. thats probabbly the junkiest part. i think the sound was valve tapping pistons.

Uh... from what i think of your problem your whole motor is screwed. Probably shot all the oil out, leaving all the moving units inside the motor to have no lubrication. You are looking at a whole new motor.

Good Luck

Is that really true about the oil pressure??? I went around a sharp turn the other day and my oil light came on for about 2 seconds and went off, hasn't been on since...........I also changed my oil since then too and my filter was as usual hard for me to get off.......

Well, if it comes on, pull over and turn off the car right away. And then check around, check ur oil (see if u got any) and around the engine bay for leak.

But for tastyratz, he had a clacking noise too, which made it worst, and he shouldn't have drove it afterwards.

tastyratz: if I were you I'd check what a long block includes, if you get the IM and exhaust manifold/downpipe you'll have everything you need to swap your engine. You'll only need a VTEC ecu which is not that expensive (I got mine for 150$CDN). Even if you ran out of oil your tranny and all the other stuff should still be alright.

ya, i just ordered the h22 from him (Steve) at hondamotorsonline. engine shipped w/in 8 days. Good shape and all.

2625 shipped to my door.

I was going to go with alongblock swap.. but then i just broke down and got a full swap. I'm parting my h23 out as well. I threw a rod, so the head should still be in good shape. And i already have the tranny sold.

Full swap usually includes tranny, ECU, wiring and stuff like that and Long block is just the engine block and head, though I'm not sure of everything that's included in a long block. I think you'd have at least the IM though...
