Well first I'd like to say that this was easy and it was hard. The hard part was getting the resonator out. Funny thing about this car, it always comes down to one screw or bolt that is one heck of a pain to get out. On NTPOG site the diagrams for the 4g are not actually the 4g. There is no screw behind the right side marker. There is a screw though somewhere lower in that region inside the bumper that is a bee I itch to get. The bumper had to be pulled back to get it, scary and not fun(way I did it). But after I got that big ass black unit that is the resonator(not like the pic in NTPOG where they make it seem like the resonator is just that little metal vacuum piece)-after I got that out the rest was easy. There was definately no need for cutting the whole bigger in wheel well. The pipe fit almost without any bending, but I did bend less than a 1/4 inch of metal around some of the edge=simple. The rest just fits right on and tightens down. The AEM I recieved has a diff logo on it than others I've seen- it looks cool.
As far as gains, well I took her out and she seemed to run better in the higher end especially, lower end seems good still if not better. Can't hear it when driving. Turn the car off and there's a sort of whoosh like everyone says-not sure how much I like it, sounds like car has problems not mods.
Overall= Worth it.
Like to say I appreciate NTPOG for there diagrams, it was just confusing when I figured there pics were not even of a 4g.
The diagrams are for a 5th gen I believe. It says it on there somewhere. Did you end up plugging the vacuum line going to the resonator or did you make another nib for it?
for the 92 and 93 you have to enlarge the opening for the intake to pass through.
everyone on hpCom back in the day was sayin that you dont have to, or you do have to, it was a mess. but mines a 92 and i had to take a dremel after it. then since that was takin to long i got the crow bar out.
as for the 'whoosh,' the only people that think that sounds like a problem are the ones that dont understand what it is.
No it whoosh's when the car is turned off. And on NTPOG it does say 4th gen Intake install. When normal driving I don't hear it, haven't really listened for it during VTEC.
I'm sorry, but I just can't believe this. You're telling me that when you're driving, and you accelerate at WOT, you can't hear ANY different noises coming from the engine bay?!

No what I said was I haven't listened for the intake while at wot. But at normal driving I don't hear nothing, or much. I was just saying this because some people wonder how much a sound difference it makes during normal driving, and I'd say none, except when you turn off the car- then there's a whoosh or swoosh or whateva...
It's definitely a different sound with an intake, especially a short ram. It's hard to describe but you just hear the engine more, sucking in air, especially at WOT. The harder you hit the gas, the louder it becomes in my experience.
And again, for people about to install theirs, if you actually read the first few paragraphs of the NTPOG install, you will see it is for an iceman on a 5th gen, so be aware things may be slightly different for you. Just look at the first pic, does that look like a 4th gen??
Well, when I had my short-ram in my 3rd gen., you couldn't hear it until about 5k rpms at WOT. My friend has some sort of Short ram on his '92 Teg, and it sounds like a mini-turbo. It sucks so much air in, it whistles. It's pretty damn cool. I hope my car sounds like that when I put the CAI on.
