my 92 prelude h22 swap in an ACCIDENT!!!

Hi all,

This is my first post. I just got a 92 prelude with h22 swap a little over a week ago. Early last week I got a brand new clutch and a different tranny put in as well as a new muffler. I even got a new dashboard because the dude working on it had one sitting in his basement. Then on Friday, somebody decided to blindly start accelerating after a stop sign amongst parked cars and another line of backed up traffic without looking and I fricken plowed into them. !!! The front end was pretty banged up. Luckily, the insurance company tells me that they're going to pay for it! I believe it will be mostly body work and probably a new radiator. Since this obviously isn't a stock car, is there going to be anything different that the shop should know about as far as how the radiator, etc needs to be set up for this different engine setup? Also, the lights were custom, has anyone had any similar past experience where they had their original setup replaced for them? Thanks a lot for any info...

Well only thing I might note is when they did the swap did they switch the radiator? I know theres different radiators models. I think theres 2. You might run into the that problem. The fans you have may not match the mounting points on the radiator. I have no idea to tell which is which though. I'm pretty sure the shop can figure it out.

Yeah, there's definitely got to be a curse because I was completely not at fault. Yay, I got to drive my car for 2.5 days I just heard that the estimated damage is like 5800!!! Now I don't know if the insurance will cover it or total it since it's such an old car. I'm friggin pissed. Does that seem reasonable though? It needs a new hood, bumper, lights, fenders, a radiator and a paint job. Would that really amount to that much? Should I get Maaco'd or at least a second estimate?

If the damages are 5800 I'm pretty sure the car is totaled. No I wouldn't go to Macco.

How hard would it be if I were to obtain the parts and do it myself? (only up to the paint job of course)

You realllllly don't want to try and fix accident damage yourself. That's a crazy ghetto maneuver. You need to have the frame inspected by a quality crash repair shop.

As far as money, that's totally up to you, your insurance, and the guy at fault's insurance.
