Mugen exhaust + header questions

Hey
Old owner of my h22a2, 93 prelude made his own exhaust system :/ its kinda loud and way to much for me..
So I thought I'd buy a better exhaust.. Like Mugen. Does it give any HP at all? Or will It just change the noise. Which one would you advice me to buy? I'm not completely sure about the 2.5" pipe, since he did it all him self. Will stuff fit together ? Or did Mugen make any 2.5" pipe thingie I can buy

Also I was out for a new header since I'm running stock. But are mugen headers about the same as hytec headers? Or is hytec really the best?

I'd like to keep it from the same brand 'Mugen' if you understand me
Also sorry for my english

Regards Rasmus

First of all here is a link you should check out concering headers and HP, not an all inclusive resource but will get you started -

New H22 Tri-Y Header Tested w/ Dynos!!! - Honda-Tech

If you have authentic mugen headers now with no damage to them, then i would keep them, hell if not ill trade ya what i got

If you have aftermarket headers on your Lude now then 'more than likely' you have a 2.5" set up running off your downpipe. If it is a custom set up that you have, are you running a catalatic converter? or a resonator? and what brand of muffler are you running? - all these factors will determine the noise level comming from your Lude, also have you checked the exhaust for any sort of leaks? - one hole in your exhaust and our cars start to sound like civics

I am installing a custom set up tomorrow night and will post pics and parts w/prices when i do it.

1) You can't buy just a Mugen muffler. The Mugen exhaust was only offered as a catback with 60mm piping IIRC, which is something like 2.3 inch diameter.

2) Exhausts, aside from having larger piping diameters which accommodate better exhaust flow, don't really do much to improve hp numbers. Do N1 or WS2 exhausts create less power than the Mugen, which is nearly 3 times the price? I doubt it. Do they sound as nice? No, not in my opinion. However, is the exhaust tone from the Mugen worth the nearly $1300.00 price tag to you?

3) The header is typically the most restrictive exhaust component. Because of this, there is more to be gained here than through the rest of exhaust system. Hytech and SMSP headers seem to deliver the best gains. DC and Megan headers are about equal to stock and offer little to no gain. The Mugen falls somewhere in between the high end and the cheapy headers performance wise. If you want actual numbers, just search up some dyno plots and see for yourself.

4) If your only problem with your current exhaust is volume, just have a resonator or two welded on, and possibly swap mufflers to a quieter one.

#1 Please do post some pictures in here after installing your new exhaust
It is some kind of Simons muffler and resonator. Theres no leaks or anything it is just loud as hell..

Ill read the link when i get home, thanks

#2 I dont like exhausts with a 100mm piping :/ I was after a good exhaust.
Not some kind of ricer exhaust if you understand me
But you are right, its 3times the price. Dno if its worth it, i just dont like the skunk2 or megan exhausts systems..

Atm Im running stock header and stock airfilter.. With 2.5" piping underneath
Im not sure what to get tbh..

I have the mugen header and cat back with the twin loop. It is a 2.36" collector. I measured. It sounds great not to loud. Its louder than stock of course but only in hirer RPMs does it start to scream and even then its not to loud. I have the stock cat as well. As for power i def gained a noticable amount. Do not buy the DC header I have read in many posts that its only a 1.9" collector and our stock is 2.0".
