Much needed advise on AC system a 96 s

Hi, new to this site, but I've read at least a dozen different posts here pertaining to my dilemma, and I hope I can get a direct answer.
My 96 s ac system has finally failed. Working fine, then bingo, turn it on, warm air only. Took it to a ac/heater shop, lines were checked for leaks, dye put into the system, then charged with coolant [ r134] and Cold air once again. That is for two days around town @ 30mph. I had to drive out to the burbs and it was hot, soooo... turned on the AC and it was blowing cold, but after a short while the vents started to also blow a visible fog/mist/vapor [whatever you want to name it] and it NEVER did that before. I knew something went south. By the time I got back, it was blowing warm again, tried it the next day- still warm.
So, it is a very expensive fix [ I was told it is most likely the evaporator, as the condenser is ok] I have the factory repair manual [ bought it when I bought the car] and a friend may be able to fix it for me. Yes, there is a airbag on the passenger's side, But here are my questions: Is it that big of a P.I.T.A. to fix? The manual shows "replacement" or "overhaul". I looked for an evaporator on line [ aftermarket] and found a "four seasons" brand [ anyone ever hear of this?] and the specs says it fits 92-96, I would like to see a picture of an original one [ factory exploded view shows the case and not a real good view of the core] any ideas of a reputable on line dealer in aftermarket? The site I found is out of Miami and the guy may be ok, but I'm not sure. No mention was made [ when I got the quote for the repair] about the expansion valve or thermostat being replaced either. I asked, but the guy said normally these don't go bad. but for the price he quoted [ over 700$] I would think that these should be replaced as long as everything is apart. Anyway, the aftermarket guy in Miami has the evaporator on sale now for 70$ and that's half of the cost of another one I found on another site [ same brand name] So, any input/thoughts/HELP you could provide, Would be HUGELY appreciated as I need to make a move on this very soon.
Thanks to all who reply!

An add on to my post

Ebay has three evaporators listed for 92-96 prelude, one used, two new, and all three look different to me, so how do you know which one fits without taking the old one out? Is this rocket science?
