MPG after I/H/E mod

Before my lude had the I/H/E mod, I was getting 23, 24 mpg for local street driving, and about 27 mpg for freeway. Right after it had I/H/E 4 months ago, it dropped to 18, 19 mpg for local. The tuning shop claimed that my lude used more gas because it got more power. Although I accelerated a little harder time to time, my basic driving habit didn't change much. Starting about a month ago, the mpg for local was back up to 23, 24 (slowly increasing). Any logic behind this?

I know mpg is also affected by the driving habit, but around 5 mpg difference is a lot.

Have you changed your dist. cap/rotor lately? If they're old and worn, your milage will suffer.

I get the same now as I did before. 25 city, 30 freeway.

Wow... you hit the jackpot! I did replaced spark plug wires, dist. cap and rotor about a month ago. Do they really make that much difference on mpg?

^ They most certainly can. Especially if they were the original parts.

When you dyno'd the car, was it before or after you replaced your ignition components?

The only thing I did when I had I/H/E mod and dyno'd was changing oil and replacing spark plugs with NGK's (was using Bosch).

This wasn't the first time that I replaced the cap and rotor though, perhaps second or third time.

How long were you getting chiddy milage for?

You have been using premium gas all the time right? somtimes you get a bad batch of gas and it makes the car run like sh!t and gives ya chiddy mileage..

after IHE and advanced ignition mine definitely seemed to go down. From about 26-28 to 22-24ish in the city, but I just had a long highway trip and it was around 26ish again. So for whatever reason my city mileage has definitely taken a hit but the highway mileage is about the same

Thanks Yohan. I just try to do some mods that don't affect my budget too much. In a couple of weeks, I will have a few more though.

From around 23/24 mpg (city), it went down to 18/19. Then slowly backed up in 3 months. It's backed up to 23/24 for over a month now. Yes, I've been using super unleaded ever since I bought the car in Feb. of '92. I really doubt that it's gas although I can't say for sure. I've been using same brand most of the time, which is Shell, but sometimes, I use Mobile and Chevron.
