Which motor is the overall best???

Well, to make this a bit more specific... my dad is planning on purchasing a 4th gen prelude ('94 i think) and he said it has the h23a motor. Stock97 on this board is my boss and he has the H22. which is faster, stock?- is basically what im asking... Is that the Si (160 hp) motor or the VTEC (190 hp)? If I'm way off on stats please somebody lay me straight. I'm a newbie to preludes and will soon create a sweet one for my dad.

Thanks everyone
Alex

So should he get the H23 or H22? And what are the HP/torque #'s on both. That would much appreciated.

H23 is 160hp & 156 tq
H22 is 190hp & 158 tq

If your dad is gonna do some kinda FI like turbo then go with the H23, if hes gonna leave it stock then go with the H22 because its a little bit faster, but they are both good motors and fast.

good call on the price, cause they have a H22 in my car club shop and he said he do everything for 3000. id spend the 3000 on FI,plus my SI (H23)can beat some v-tec preludes,integras..... already.

well if you want to go N/A, it's worth to get a swap than to spend money and making an SI run as fast as a vtec

The VTEC is faster stock. The H23 has alot of potential, though. This car is for your dad? I wish my mom would get a Prelude

My dad has si and I have vtec, so I have a pretty good experience with driving both. If your dad plans to run the **** out of his car or race people than he should get vtec, otherwise Si is a bit more fun to drive because the torque comes much earlier in the rpm where it becomes more usable. It just makes the car feel like it's easier to drive. This is the reason why my dad chose Si instead of VTEC. There is more low end grunt in si.
VTEC will deffiently take si up top.

it's true that it's only a .5 sec faster than the si...but...a .5 is alot at the tracks.....it's kind of saying do you want a 14.5 ET or a 15.0ET.... just me $.02 good comparsion though...

I don't doubt it. I had a S, and still had fun with that

16.2 @ 86 baby! with K&N filter, universal muffler, and gutted cat!

oh yeah and a VTEC transmission - geared SO damn short. I was limted to like 117 mph.
