Moron induced failure

I went to clean the engine bay today with foamy engine brite. I was in a hurry, so I didn't cover anything up. I cleaned everything up nicely and rinsed out the chemicals with my trusty hose. About 15 minutes later I go to start the car, and it hesitantly rattled it's way to life. I didn't think much of it until I went to step on the gas. Under quick throttle depressions, the car misses. It will do this at any time. As long as I am light on the throttle, I have no probs. Of course, I suspect an electrical failure, and I suspect one of the following:

Map sensor
EGR system
TDC sensor

Based on the experience of the PO clan, do these symptoms point heavily to any one of these? Thanks in advance.

start by changing your plugs and wires.. i think that may fix it.. you prolly didnt ruin any electrical connections, most are pretty well sealed up and a little water wouldnt ruin them i wouldnt think

We'll see if the problem goes away as it dries out, but I suspect it won't. I'll check this evening when I get home. I don't think replacing the plugs and wires will do anything, as the car worked great before the engine clean. I hope you all are right, and it is just a little water in the distributor.....

Take the plug wires out too... I made the mistake of thinking the rubber boots would prevent moisture from getting in the plug-holes once... 3 days of intermittent misfires later...

Course then I threw a rod about 20k later and I've always wondered if I did myself in trying to diagnose this myself for 3 days... But that's another thread.

Seriously though, dip a paper towel into your plug-holes (There has got to be a better phrase then this) and make sure you didn't get any moisture in em...

Good deal, hopefully you didn't have a hard time drying things out. I think next time I clean my engine bay I'm just going to get large rubber stoppers or just completely mask off the valve cover and then clean it outside of the car...

I'm surprised it got to the plugs.....Do you have an H23 or H22? Did you have the Plug cover on? How much water did you use? I have never had this problem before and ive done what you did and never had a problem. Well good luck next time.
