mocal oil cooler h22a

All,

got a query bout a mocal oil cooler pipes and fittings.

Some time a go when I rebuilt my motor I fitted this to my h22a block however I took this off as I noticed a pressure drop. I would like to put this back on now but I an concerned that I might do more damage then good. Can anyone tell me iff the presure drop is normal and also would I require a thermostat in the oil line.

as I said I rebuilt the block and I dont want to mess the bottom end up.

My best advice would be to use a t-stat if it's a street driven car. I use a Mocal Thermostatic sandwich adapter with my track car myself. I'd ditch the OEM oil cooler too.

What size plumbing were you using? I'd suggest at a minimum -10AN. I'm more inclined to go larger, so my oil cooler uses -12AN tubing. It's huge stuff, but the pressure drop is minimal. My old setup used -10AN, and I didn't notice much pressure drop (I can't recall the exact numbers).

What size cooler are you using? Generally the larger coolers have a lower pressure drop as well.

You're fine using an oil cooler on a freshly built engine, just use the proper oil, and proper plumbing, and you'll be okay.

BTW, my current setup is 25 row Mocal cooler with -12AN fittings, -12AN plumbing, and a Mocal thermostatic sandwich adapter. I generally use Wix filters, although I might change to a Canton Mecca filter.
