minor setback in h23 pull, need advice

hey fellow swapers. well, i pulled all the bolts for that power steering thing behind the motor (near shift linkage) and as far as the helms looks, it looks like it should pull right out from the top of the transmission, and to replace an O-ring... well, its not budging. any tips?

ps. im a swapping rookie

is the transmission still in the car?

I couldn't get mine off when I pulled my tranny to change the clutch, so I just left it on and disconnected the hoses.

I'm assuming "that thing" is the VSS. I actually just replaced mine today. there is only one bolt that holds it into the tranny. It can be hard to see, and it is not normal looking. As long as you take the shift linkage off, you should be able to wiggle it out (and you will have to wiggle it. You shouldn't need to replace the o ring (unless it really looks bad. I've pulled my tranny about 4 times, and have also replaced my engine. I never replaced the o ring. In any case, the VSS is a tight fit in there, and once you do get it out of there, you won't have much room to maneuver it. Good luck.

Don't disconnect the lines running to it, unless its a last resort. If you take the lines off, you have to rebleed the system which isn't fun or cheap ( you HAVE to use Honda PS fluid, which is pricey).

The vss has a gear which meshes with the transmission, so it can be kinda "wedged" in there by the friction between the gear teeth. Don't be afraid to give it a good pull.

I'm sure you've already seen this, but just in case you missed it: http://www.preludeonline.com/showthr...81#post1085281

bleeding the system is easy.... what are you talking about?

It's self bleeding. You just need to make sure you have PS fluid that says its for Hondas.
