map problem in jdm swap: help!

ok so i got the motor in and finally looks to have all the problems solved but 1.

i am getting a MAP error... its the MIL 3 which indicates an electrical problem with the MAP sensor

my jdm motor is using a usdm map on the TB from my 96 vtec, which worked perfectly well in the 96 vtec

the car that this motor and 96 TB and MAP are now in is a 92 4ws

scenario #1 connected map up to the wiring harness, then realized that the map harness isnt in the engine harness on the cars that had the map on the firewall... oh well... i ran wires to the map harness and connected them there... i get code 3

scenario #2 slightly irritated, i look into things a bit further and realize the pinouts are different on these different MAPs, so i move what i thought was the ground to what should be the ground... i again get code 3

scenario #3 quite aggitated... i test the wires for continuity between the sensor and the end of my harness... all checks out... out of pure bewilderment, i run new power and signal wires from the map directly to the ecu... guess what, yup, code 3 again!

scenario #4 very much piss'd off now... i begin to think im actually going to have to use the ugly ass map that goes on the firewall instead of the clean simple one on the TB... i swap everything opting for the ugly MAP and guess what, i f'ing have a code 3 again

remember the tb map and ecu were used before together in the 96 without ANY problems. and the firewall map worked perfectly well in the car before the swap. and now nothing works

what am i missing??? help me, i really really want to experience vtec in a 4ws.

and sorry to get off topic, are there any ill effects from removing the evap purge system?
