Malfunction Indicator Lamp, Need Help!
I just got my car back on sunday from a full inspection, including emissions in Pennsylvania. I drove to work yesterday with no problem. The car actually seemed alot quicker then before the inspection, but I dont know why. Anyway, today on my way to work the malfunction indicator lamp comes on. I was on I-95 at the time and before the light ever lite up, I could feel something different about my acceleration when I was merging. As soon as I merged, I noticed the light was on and blinking. I immediately pulled over and checked the manual, it says:
This indicator comes on for a few seconds when you turn the ignition switch on. If it comes on at any other time, it indicates that one of the engine's emissions control systems may have a problem..... have it checked as soon as possible.
I figured that it was at the point ok to continue to drive, the manual says you can continue to drive just accelerate slow. So i turned the car back on, the light was still blinking. The car is now idling at 600 RPMs which seems very low, my lude also feels like it is going to stall out any second (it is shaking). Then I start to accelerate and the car shakes alot more, like I am going to stall out until I get into second gear.
How serious is this problem? Is it safe for me to drive back home (30minutes) so that I can drop it off at the gas station that did the inspection, or do I need to find a honda dealership near by? Anyone with any helpful information, please respond. Thanks alot.
