Hey, someone on HAN a while back used a few layers of blue acetate film to make their guages on the EL display blue(r), I was wondering if anyone has tried (or if they think it'll work) to use red film and make the guages red, kinda like in a beemer. Anyone?
I'm sure it would work...I dont know why it wouldnt. I'm still looking for some Darn acetate locally so I can do the blue swap. If you do the red (you should) I wanna see it...that could be cool.

if you want some acetate, lemme know, I'll find the thread on HAN, the guy who did his blue pasted a link to some art supplies website, he said 3 or 4 layers did it. my only concern about red is that the light may not be bright enough, but I think you're right, it should be okay, after all, at night I actually dim mine because it bothers my eyes.
You wont be able to get red because the green color comes from the fact that almost all the light being emmitted is green and blue. If you put on something that filters out everything but red almost no light will get though.
well i did this mod myself. i put blue and i think it came out very well. i put like 3 layers for a nice rich blue. any more then that, it will be getting darker and darker. its kinda hard to see it in the daytime espcially the clock. but i dont mind. i also did it for my speedometer kinda. i cut out a blue acetate and put it over the glass instead of inside cuz i was lazy to open it back up and i only put one layer for the speedometer and tach gauges. i wonder if red would work myself. i ordered mine from misterart. just order from them online, save yourself the trouble.
yeah, I guess I never thought about how it would make it purple instead of red ... I was so busy thinking about if it would be bright enough I forgot about the difference in colors. Oh well, one less reason to remove my dash.
Alright guys.. Theres a simple idea that your just thinking too hard here.. Has anyone seen the pic of the Guy with EL guages that has a SI redline he turned green/blue all the way to the vtec redline after he did his swap.. Im sure now that I am mentioning it someone will remember and take the effort to post this.. Well, the deal is you can easily take a pocket knife or razor and scratch the green off... Its just that effort thing.. I honestly wouldnt be worried abuot screwing anything up because I did this for my blue guages and let me tell you... I scratched the guage face up well.. But, it didnt make a difference at all as I just basically took that face off and scratch fomr the back.. Sure, it kinda takes a little more effort.. But red can be easily done.. Just a thought...

wow, didn't know that, maybe I can after all red my dash display. So where exactly is the blue layer, on the front of the EL plate or on the back of it?
