Lude's steering is funky... *problem*

Alright, for the record this is a 94 Si with 124k miles.

This problem is kinda hard to explain but I'll try my best.

My steering wheel simply has a mind of its own. Ruts easily take my car (which is understandable) but even so, on nearly flat ground sometimes my car will turn to the right or left (normally always right) when braking. Sometimes I'll brake on a flat surface and the car won't turn any way... but rather often it likes to really turn right when braking (I think especially when the car gets below 20 mph). I thought it must be air in my brake lines but that isn't the problem. My alignment is a little off since the new tires have been put on, BUT this problem has been occuring even before the new tires.

It's not just when I'm braking, but whenever the car gets into any minimal sized rut or basically ANYTHING, it pulls hard towards a certain way. It's normally right, but not always. There are no sounds of any metal clashing or anything either.

So, in perspective, my alignment is off to the right a bit. However, these problems are more serious than the alignment, which is why I'm posting. Plus, the alignment seems to only explain why the car pulls to the right a little bit when driving normally at any speeds... and my problem seems to go well beyond this.

As I said earlier, it's kind of hard to explain the problems because they're weird. However, any suggestions or similar problems that anyone has had and can explain would be great. Thanks.

I had a problem when I brake, my steering wheel would turn left and right rapidly. I don't know if that's the same situation with you, but when I got my brake pads replaced and polished, it solved the problem. Might not be the same solution for you though, but it's probably something with your brakes.

ya sounds like the brake pads...
besides that whens the last time you had your wheels balanced?

i just recently got new ball joints on my 92 SI... and that stiffened up my steering a wee bit... though i was trying to fix a loose sounding front suspension at the time

My steering wheel makes a rubbing noise when you turn it more than 60%, but steering on the car is fine, if not a bit stiff. I think your problem is brake related. That's just my $.02

My car does that too but I have a rear caliper that's stuck so I guess that might be my problem. I replaced the rear rotors and pads a year and a half ago and my driver side pads are worned completely while my passenger side is still brand new (I should switch them left-right so I still have new pads on the side that works )

What I don't understand is why the car goes to the right when it's only the left rear calipers that works?

My car has been align two summers ago btw and there was a tiny difference in camber in the front, one side was -0.6 and the other -0.9 IIRC.

If you do find a solution let me know

I have a similar problem, maybe not as bad.

I think its caused by worn bushing. I will probably be upgrading mine soon, I'll let post if it makes a difference.

I ALSO have a problem, going over potholes or any non-flat surface my steering tends to steer to the left. It's annoying and kinda dangerous.

What size tires do you have? I notice ruts and bumps send my car left and right a lot more with when I have 215/35/18 tires on compared to the stocks at 205/55/15.

Where did you get the ball joints alone?

If it is a CV boot, should I be able to see something wrong with it if I jacked the car up?

more like CV joint. If it was cv boot, you could see if from a mile away as you would havde leaking grease all oevr your wheels.
