Need your help guys! Ive noticed after several heavy rainfalls that the driver side floormat becomes wet. I pulled the carpeting up and noticed a good amount of water. The firewall area was not damp, only the floorboard.
I also noticed that there are rubber stoppers on the floorboard (that pull out quite easily I might add). Has anyone ever had these leak before? Thanks all!
OMFG I think im gonna cry!!! I hope to god its not that! It looked kind of like the first picture but not nearly as bad. I did a leak test for the windshield at that checked out ok. My question for you munsher was the carpet wet in the rear or under the rear seat? You would think it would be if that was the source.
edit: my question for you was kind of dumb now that I realize how much water was in your car! doh
I traced my problem to a bootlid seal - even though I sealed it up and everything (With silicon) it stil leaked. A brand new seal fixed it though.
With yours though, it sounds like its coming from the front - I recently threw a bucket of water near the front left corner of my windshield only to find some droplets on my accel pedal (keeping in mind mine is rhd) which is freakY!
Thats exactly what I did today. I dumped a gallon of water down the window and waited for any signs of water. Absolutely none. So Im stumped as of now. My only thought is the rubber drain plug is letting water seep in during heavy rains and while driving. So Im going to replace that as soon as I get one...then Ill have to wait for the next big storm.
My driverside rear seat was wet to the touch, the carpet under the driver seat was soaked, the driverside rear mat was soaked, the driverside carpet and front floormat were soaked. I took the opportunity to clean the entire interior with everything out, haha... this might give you an idea of where the leak came from...
(i was pushing on it from inside the car)

another possibility to consider is your front driver's side sunroof drain. I know it travels the length of the a-piller than down just in front of the door. It may take awhile, but you could park your car on a slight decline (so the front is facing downhill), then open the sunroof and poor water in the side channel, then watch to see if any comes out down by where your feet normally are. I'm pretty sure it's the same, I know my 87 had those drains, don't 4th gens?
Actually i think you were giving a friend a ride somwhere, and he accidently spilt a gallon of water in your car. he was embarassed so he didnt tell you, but dont give friends a ride anymore, problem solved.
Uh no thats definately not what happened....if someone spilt some sh!t in my car i would knoe about it. And as far as the drain tube, Ill have to check that out tomorrow.
So how would you clear a clogged drain tube. It seems like that would be royal PITA!
Wait a minute!!!! I just went and washed my car today and noticed once again moisture at my feet. I used a high pressure sprayer and sprayed along the moonroof for qute awhile and was just thinking that maybe that a faulty drain tube was a possibility. I opened the moonroof and there wasn't even an a drop of moisture in and arounf the track area.....so Im dismissing that posibility altogether.
my leak in my 2nd gen was coming from the cieling, so my problem was the clear plastic tube wasn't properly/snugly attached to the drain nozzle. Yours is at the feet, so I don't know exactly how that works, I mean, the only holes should be the top and the bottom, and by bottom I mean outside underneath your car, so I don't know how it's getting in. What I'm thinking is maybe it's like my problem, and that water is instead just dripping down the A-pillar and coming out by your feet. I suppose the a-pillar cover can work as a channel, and you'd not notice any water until it reaches the bottom. I had to peel the cieling panel down at the corner where you can imagine the front driver's side drain would be, and look for a plastic tube, I don't even remember if it had a clamp around it, or if it just fit snugly on the drain nozzle when I put it back out. Give it a try and see if you have the problem again afterwards ... wow, I said 'problem' a lot, didn't I? Time to sleep....
