Lude recalls

Hey, I was wondering, you guys know how the 5th gen accords have that balancer shaft seal recall? Does it affect all the ludes too? Or just the S models, that have the f22 engine in it? It would make sense that it affects only the f22 engines, but maybe the H-series are involved too. I was just curious about this,

Eddie

It didn't affect all Preludes only certain years. I simply called Honda of America and gave them my VIN number and they were able to tell if my car was covered under the recall.

They said certain year Preludes that were manufactured in Japan are recalled. I'm not sure if any S models were covered but my 94 VTEC was.

Just call to find out if your car is covered.

Mark

I'm not sure if it affected the S (I really think it did), but the recall was only for 94-96 and the 94-95-ish generation Accord. Although the 92-93 preludes weren't recalled, they suffer from the same problem. Call your dealer and give them you VIN like Mark said. They should be able to tell you.

So was my 94 Prelude Si.

The seal actually backed out, spilling all the oil

The Recall

How do i find out where the leak is? Is it usually in the same area where mostly everyone has their common leaks or we would have to turn the vehicle at a shop in order for repair. Please reply.

You can't see any leak. The recall is for the balancer shaft oil seal which has been known to back out unexpectedly. If this seal backs out, your engine will loose all its oil in a matter of seconds causing major damage. This recall is preventive maintenance. There are NO symptoms if your seal is about to back out.

Call Honda to see if your car is covered as soon as possible.
