so my 92 has bin sitting around outside in the -25 or so canadian winter for about a month. i turn the key and the cars started on the first shot as i expected haha. but the problem is that iv been driving it for about a week and in 2 days its used up $35 worth of gas...
-yes i let the engine warm up properly before driving
-no i never take it over 4000 rpm unless i NEED to pass someone or sumthing
-while driving im always in a higher gear and lower rpm to save gas
i dont ever remember it using up soo much gas, is it supposed to use more in winter or sumthing? maybe i need to get a tune up i really dont know but does anybody have any ideas or solutions?
BASICALLY:
Car is using up an abnormal amount of fuel and i have no clue why...
The blend of the gas is different than the blend during summer months. Gas mileage always drops in the winter because of winter blend.
When was the last time you did the plugs, cap, rotor and wires? Ever replace the fuel filter and/or PCV? Hows the air filter look? Ever changed the O2 sensors? I had no codes but changed my O2 sensors and I got better mileage.

I havnt changed any of those...
The acceleration also flutters sometimes wen rpm is under 2500. I talked to the mechanic about that and he said to replace spark plugs, wires, fuel filter and such.
Im guessing thts probably what needs to be done, thanks alot

If doing those make sure to also replace the distributor cap and rotor as well.

Warming up your car isn't really necessary. All you're really doing is wasting gas. I know that it's really cold up there and all, but running your car for around a minute before driving should do. Just drive it gently for the first 5+ minutes until it's warm, meaning under 3k rpm. I used to warm my car up as well, but after doing some research I found out that warming up a noncarburated car does no good. It drives like crap the first few minutes, but it'll warm up pretty quick and drive normally. Hope that saves you some gas.
So i filled up a couple days ago and thought id let it sit a little longer in the mornings and in driving about a half tank i got 250km which is actually a miracle. I havnt switched out those parts yet, but it kinda looks like letting the engine warm up mite have some influence on fuel economy.
Maybe its just coincidence but either way i will get the new stuff put on anyways thanks alot for the help guys.
you check your sensors even though the cel should be on maybe it doesnt work or something but the knock sensor will make your car spit and backfire and stuff and is a big pain in the ass but changing it is really easy and you can get a oem knock sensor for like 100 i think or it could be other sensors but thats what it sounds like to me but could be wrong
if you leave your car sit with fuel in it the fule will degrade to the point that you willnot be getting very good mileage. This is especially true in the winter when it is minus degrees. If yuo have to store your car and there is fuel in it, you need to go and get a fuel condtiotioner to put in it while it is being stored. This will help reduce teh degradation of the fuel.
Did you ever resolve the issue with your abnormal gas consumption? My lude is getting seems to be going through the same thing. It's guzzling gas. I'm going to try the recommended replacements that have been suggested.
